PSC golf from The Golf Club Sports Bar

Monday, August 15, Green Valley – Stableford

1st Roger Koehler (26) 40pts

2nd Jim Dundon (16) 36pts

3rd Alex Tregurtha (19) 36pts

We had 4 groups out there today from “The Club” and Rayong Green Valley was the destination.  The course was in great shape so that just added to the enjoyment of a great layout.  There are more locals that are members here than any other course in Pattaya and there is good reason for it.

The father/son duo of Barry and Alex Tregurtha are back in town but it was the lad who got to the podium first on this trip.  A night of Penfolds Bin No.2 wasn’t enough to help Barry on his card this time.  Alex came in with a third (on count back) to semi-resident Jimmy Dundon who stays with us at The Golf Club on his breaks from the high seas.  Nice shootin’ guys!

David Shelton, Bob McPhail and Craig Wyer at The Golf Club after the Laem Chabang comp. David Shelton, Bob McPhail and Craig Wyer at The Golf Club after the Laem Chabang comp.

The story of the day, however, was the high handicapper Roger Koehler who shot the lights out with a sparkling round of 40 Stableford points!  Roger also currently holds the record for most foot massages in a 24 hour period.  Well played Roger and thanks for showing those long hittin’ single digit boys that we doubles can still come through once in a while.

Tuesday, August 16, Laem Chabang – Stableford

1st Bob McPhail (16) 39pts

2nd David Shelton (7) 37pts

3rd Walter Baechli (18) 36pts

What a great course Laem Chabang is!  OK, it was quite wet on the day but probably the same at every course in Pattaya with the heavy rains we have had of late.  LC is still a class act and we were lucky enough to be assigned the C and B courses for our comp.

Last year they put in a new and very much improved driving range and practice area for chipping and putting that is located just past the hotel on the right.  This year the SportsMall outfit have come in and made a beautiful pro-shop in the entire area around the green fee desk.  Each manufacturer has its own equipment area and they have lots of it.  They have some nice gear there, so allow some time to check it out on your next trip.

Brian & his “Queenie” Marlene Prudden are back to join us from a cold and harsh Australian winter.  Not.  It’s great to see our regulars coming back to roost for the season already.  Fellow Ozman Bob McPhail has been playing great golf these days and has been very consistent (must be nice!).  He earned his victory today with a solid 39 points that was enough to beat the gentleman from Virginia, Dave Shelton.

It was also nice to see Walter Baechli take time out from the Northshore gallery to play with us once again and well done to Walter for his 36 on the day.

Friday, August 19, Treasure Hill – Stableford

1st David Shelton (7) 38pts

2nd Bob McPhail (16) 37pts

3rd Bob Newell (9) 36pts

Thursday was Alexandra’s 3rd birthday party at Pattaya Pizza so we were all a bit knackered the next day after the social event of the season.  Our buddy Roachie is a former pro golfer from Melbourne and is now caddy for German pro Marcel Siem on the European Tour.  He is a great golfer in his own right who plays off 4 now but doesn’t swing a club much these days.  When he does, it is very impressive.  Naturally, everyone wanted to play with him and see his game.  Once we sorted out the fight to be in his four-ball with Nigel, Dale, Bob and the rest, it was off to the first tee!

What better venue for a test of golf than the links of Treasure Hill.  This is a tough course to score well on and cracking the 40 point mark is rare here.  Dave Shelton has been in fine form lately and he stayed the course here for his victory, finally, after many placings at the number 2 spot.  He and Bob McPhail traded podium places from our Tuesday at Laem Chabang as Bob headed off back to Oz until December.  Bob Newell was kind enough to herd cattle (seamlessly) on this day and our thanks go out to him.  Just like the old days mate?  Of course Dale won for “Best Dressed” once again.

We must give a non-golf plug to JTB as he now has his epic tome “Dirty Rotten Rascal” available on Amazon. com so have a look and a search and support your local author, Mr. John Dearden.

We are off to the Kabinburi Sports Club once again for the best deal on a road trip anywhere.  Only 2,200 baht for a great 4-star hotel with breakfast and 2 green fees.  The signup sheet is up now for the 6th and 7th of September and only 32 places are available so come on down!

Thanks to all for participating in this week’s fixtures, and don’t forget to check us out on facebook/golfclubpattaya for updates, musings, and scandals in general.

Note:  The Golf Club is located on Soi LK Metro, off Soi Buakhao and Soi Diana junction.  We can be reached on 085 434 3377 or pattaya4 [email protected] and our is www.golfclubpattaya.com.
