IPGC Golf from The Tara Court Golf Group

Sunday, August 22, Silky Oak – Stableford

Today instead of our usual game in Green Valley we were moved over to Silky Oak.  We had a smaller group than usual as many of our regular players do not like this course because of the fact that it has five par 5’s and five par 3’s, and also because some of our friends were away to Hua Hin for a few days.  However those who did play enjoyed it very much as we had the course to ourselves, most of the other groups who were moved had gone to St Andrews instead.

The course was in excellent condition apart from the fairway on the eighteenth and the new layout is a big improvement on the old one.

The scoring was very good today, especially from a small group.  Donal McGuigan was the winner with an excellent forty two points, two ahead of Joe McArdle in second who beat Dan Hobbs into third on a count back.

Paul Pavloff had the only ‘2’ of the day.

1st Donal McGuigan (19) 42pts

2nd Joe McArdle (13) 40pts

3rd Dan Hobbs (24) 40pts

Tuesday, August 25, Phoenix – Stableford

We were at Phoenix on Tuesday to take advantage of their offer of free golf carts, which makes it very good value for money for such a good golf course.  We played the Mountain and Ocean nines and although it was fairly busy we still got around in a reasonable time. Again we had a small group out as many of our friends were away.

None of our group managed to play to their handicaps, with Joe McArdle being the winner with thirty five points, which was reasonable taking in to account that he three-putted at least five times.  Ted Morris was second with thirty two and Frank McGowan came in third a further point back.

We had no ‘2’s today.

1st Joe McArdle (13) 35pts

2nd Ted Morris (13) 32pts

3rd Frank McGowan (18) 31pts

Thursday, August 27, Burapha – Stableford

There is no doubt about it, this is by far the best time of the year to play golf in Thailand.  You get the chance to play the very best courses at very reasonable prices and also the courses are very quiet and you can get around quickly.  Today in Burapha we had the course to ourselves for the first ten holes which was brilliant, and then even when we caught up with the groups in front on the eleventh tee it still went quickly.  Once again the course was in beautiful condition with fast greens.

Ted Morris was the man of the match today, winning with thirty six points and beating John Fenwick into second on a count back.  Joe Mcardle came third with thirty three and again today we had no ‘2’s.

1st Ted Morris (13) 36pts

2nd John Fenwick (21) 36pts

3rd Joe McArdle (13) 33pts
