PSC golf from The Fairways Golf Society

Monday, March 7, Treasure Hills – Stableford

This was probably the hottest day of the year so far and very humid.  The heat and the course took their toll as nobody managed to play to par.  Two players pulled out after only nine holes, one suffering from exhaustion and the other with a damaged wrist.  It was clear there were going to be no high scores recorded today as the players straggled off the last green, all complaining of the heat and limping away to the dressing rooms for a nice cool shower.

The successful near pin winners today were Patrick Engles, Steve Durey, Terry Droy and Phil Mitchell.

A Flight

1st Brian Beaupre (5) 34pts

2nd Brian Neals (16) 33pts

3rd Phil Mitchell (6) 32pts

B Flight

1st Steve Durey (19) 34pts

2nd Roy Taylor (21) 33pts

3rd Joop Medze (17) 32pts

Wednesday, March 9, The Emerald – Stableford

Lots of rain again today which caused a half hour stoppage, but the course was in really good condition even though the greens were a little on the slow side.

Only one player managed to play to his handicap, Brian Caplin with a solid 36 points, with the rest of the field well strung out behind.  The near pin winners were Brian Neal, John Lay, Brian Caplin and Mike Bobkin.

1st Brian Caplin (16) 36pts

2nd Joop Medze (17) 33pts

3rd Phil Mitchell (6) 32pts

4th Mike Bobkin (18) 31pts

Friday, March 11, Mountain Shadow – Stableford

We arrived here today to find the greens even more difficult than usual with the pin placements in some really treacherous positions.  Only one player Phil Mitchell seemed able to cope with them.  Most of the players were 3 and even 4 putting and one player, whose name I won’t mention, even 5 putted one green.  But everybody agreed that this was a good warm up for the P.A.G.S. tournament at the end of the month.

Near pin winners today were Ning Neal (2), Joop Medze and Phil Mitchell.

1st Phil Mitchell (6) 36pts

2nd Pier Cere (11) 31pts

3rd Patrick Engles (17) 29pts
