Sunday, March 27, Green Valley – Stableford

1st JP Maffray (14) 38pts

2nd Barry Copestake (15) 37pts

3rd Peter Kelly (11) 34pts

4th Gerry Hughes (20) 32pts

With rain forecast (and it did not disappoint resulting in a half hour delay) a fair share of the lads decided to have a lay in, and this coupled with a few regulars leaving to visit family meant for a smaller than average crowd.

JP Maffray.

The course was in very good condition until the rain arrived and soaked the fairways.  Adapting to the conditions best was old friend Monsieur JP Maffray with a man of the match 38 points.  JP was one stroke clear of Barry ‘the boot’ Copestake while the Paddy’s filled the minor places as pay window regular Peter Kelly lifted the flight bronze with 34 points, leaving Gerry ‘the Irish rover’ Hughes to close the podium on 32.

Monday, March 28, Greenwood A & C – Stableford

1st John Stewart (21) 41pts

2nd Bob Stokes (13) 37pts

3rd Takeshi Hakozaki (14) 37pts

4th John Feehan (15) 37pts

As usual Greenwood was in decent condition with the greens returning to their old slick style.  What was unusual was that the course normally gets murdered, with some great scores posted here in the past.  It must have been the thunder storm on Sunday because in general the scores were pretty poor today.

Due to the low season numbers there was only one flight with four podium slots.  John Stewart solved the course riddle beat as he posted a fine man of the match 41 points.  The remaining three podium slots were decided on a count back between Bob Stokes, Takeshi Hakozaki and Co. Tipperary man John Feehan; when the dust had settled it was Bob who emerged with the silver and Takeshi the bronze while Mr. Feehan was left to tidy up the flight.

Wednesday, March 30, Plutaluang E & S – Stableford

A Flight

1st Laurence McBride (14) 39pts

2nd Phil Blanchard (3) 38pts

3rd Matt Cronin (16) 37pts

B Flight

1st Anton Ramsbottom (24) 41pts

2nd Paddy Jordan (20) 38pts

3rd Paul Kruining (27) 37pts

The rain of late did wonders for the Thai Royal Navy course where the Lewiinski’s gang played on this day.  The fairways were in good condition and the greens were a little slower than usual.  Playing the East and South nines the field was split into two flights.

B Flight provided the man of the match as Anton Ramsbottom sailed round to post a magnificent 41 points.  Paddy Jordan lifted the flight silver three shots adrift, leaving Paul Kruining to close the flight.

The scores were tight in A Flight as all the winners were separated by two points.  The man on fire, Glasgow’s Lawrence McBride stood atop the podium with an excellent 39 points, one clear of Phil Blanchard while Co. Killkeny’s Tom Gorey and Matt Cronin both posted joint 37 points with the former winning the count back to leave Matt you know where and pot less.

Friday, April 1, Burapha A & B – Stableford

1st Ken Hole (17) 42pts

2nd John Harrison (14) 41pts

3rd Jim Elphick (25) 40pts

4th Nick Shaw (17) 38pts

Burapha was the venue for this Friday and with the golf courses not so full of tourists it was a pleasure to play and get round in good time.  Ken Hole took full advantage of an excellently prepared course where the greens were once again in tip top condition to post a great 42 points for the man of the match, mind you he needed every one of them as John Harrison was but one stroke away as he picked up the silver.

Jimmy ‘two shots’ Elphick proved once again that youth and muscles are not a must to play this game as he was a further stroke back for the bronze.  Old friend Nick ‘Elvis’ Shaw closed the flight with a creditable 38 points.
