The Pattaya Golf Society (IPGC) at Rabbi’s Elephant Bar

A bright and breezy day dawned on Monday, 10th September as the Pattaya Golf Society visited Bangpra to play a stableford competition on a course in excellent condition with greens full of “roll” and running at a quick pace.  Starting earlier than usual the group found an empty course in front of them and excellent progress was made.

Finishing in third place was Dave Edwards with 29 points, playing perhaps his most inconsistent round since arriving on the scene in Pattaya a few months ago.  In second was Mr Len with 30 points, the promise of his front nine dissipating in water on four holes on the in run.  The winner, in his thirteenth official IPGC competition, was Neil McIntosh and there was certainly no element of luck about it as his new driver matched his ambitions and set up his winning score of 31 points.

There were no birdie ‘2’s and the Booby Bevy went to Joe Niisato after he announced in the locker room he had left his “change” sports bag back in Rabbi’s Elephant Bar in Soi Buakhao.  He wasn’t the first, and won’t be the last, no doubt.  Old friend Mike Ensor won the Rabbi’s free beer draw on his return and it all added a little bit more fun to an excellent day at Bangpra.

Grimes in charge

Eastern Star was the venue for the Pattaya Golf Society on Wednesday, 12th September as the Soi Buakhao based group gathered to play a stableford event on the course which was still quite soft after a few days rain.  Thus the course was to play long with little run on the fairways.

Finishing in third place on 31 points was Dave Edwards, again, his round suffering a surprising “blip” in the middle when he lost five shots in seven holes.  Ahead in second was Mr Len and his 32 points again reflected his putting form which helped him eke out points on holes where other shots had failed him.  The winner was Ken Grimes who merited all the plaudits after a blemish-free round gave him 36 quality points.

On a day when there were no birdie ‘2’s the Booby Bevy went to Tim Knight for the largest split over the two nines and Rabbi’s free beer draw was won by Joe Niisato.
