A good turnout for this course that is always in prime condition and for a change we did not have to play B1 as our first hole, which made everyone happy.  Scores were close with the first spot going to Sunny, having 23 on the back nine to Les’s 20, and Robbie had 20 to Colin’s 19 to snatch third place.

Back at the club pork pie hats and oversize glasses resulted in many being named the Booze Brothers and a good time was had by all.

Wednesday, June 28, Silky Oaks – Rainbow Stableford

Many of us were looking forward to the rainbow comp on this course, which has many holes with longish carries over water so the prospect of being able to move to the front tees was appealing.  Unfortunately the green-keepers had heavily top dressed the greens, making them almost unplayable as and regardless of how hard you hit your putt there was no chance of it reaching the hole.  Colin Greig, who always putts from well off the green was the only one not complaining, especially since he had 4 birdies during his round.

The tee boxes and fairways were in good condition but the elevation on tees and greens make it a mountaineer’s dream.  Shot of the day came from the only lady in the field, Kob, who secured a near pin prize.

This has to be the best value for money course in the Chonburi area, with well manicured greens, fairways, and tee boxes.  The greens were not as fast as they can be sometimes and were true, resulting in many good putts dropping.  The course is a test for controlled golf and requires thinking and planning to get around with a good score.  Maybe it was too hot for some of our players.

Even though the course was full there were no hold-ups and everyone enjoyed their game.  Robbie secured the win on a count back with17 on the back nine to Neil’s 14.
