Monday, June 26, Phoenix – Stableford

Phoenix was the place to be today with a lovely breeze blowing as we played the Lakes and Ocean loops.  With 5 groups playing, we got away right on time but it was a slightly slower day with a couple of groups in front losing a couple of holes along the way.

The course was in spectacular condition but the rough has been allowed to grow and is absolutely brutal.  The scribe missed the fairway on one hole and it took him 3 shots with a wedge to advance the ball about 90 yards.

Wes Rado took line honours with a neat 40 points, two ahead of fellow Aussie Neil Herd in second while Lloyd Shuttleworth took third on a count-back over Graham Baley, both with 37 points each.  Graham had the consolation of recording the only ‘2’ of the day.

Wednesday, June 28, Green Valley – Medal

The monthly medal at Green Valley attracted 3 groups of ladies and 7 groups of men, so it was a busy day.  We started in a nice breeze that disappeared half was round but it did come back after a few holes.

In the men’s division first place went to John Dearden with a net 66, two up on Steve Compton in second while Brett Gale was third on net 69 and Gary Ritchie fourth with a net 70.

There were four ‘2’s, coming from Neil Herd, Arch Armstrong and Gary Ritchie (2).

Friday, June 30, Phoenix – Scramble

The monthly scramble at Phoenix had 20 groups playing and the course was again in fantastic condition.  This monthly comp is turning out to be a favourite fun day for all who play in it.

The scores on the day, perhaps due to the white markers being mostly on the ladies tees on the Ocean side due to the Ladies European Tour tournament coming up.

There was a 3-way count back for third on net 56, with Team Horrocks justy edging it while second place went to Willie Mercer and his team with a net 55.6.  The champions this montrh were Team Hack with a great score of net 54.8.

The highlight of the day was a hole in one by Alistair Aitken on Lakes 7th hole and because he couldn’t get back for the presentation he gave some money to Derek Mower to the ring the bell on his behalf.  Well done mate and hearty congratulations from all here at the Billabong.
