PSC Golf from The Growling Swan

Thursday, Sept. 19, Pattavia – Stableford

Two buses (and a few cars) of golfers left the Growling Swan a little earlier than the scheduled a headed up to Pattavia, a course that it sits high on the ‘most favoured’ list by this society!

The weather was as good as one could hope for at this time of the year, with overcast skies keeping the temperatures cooler than normal, but as the day went on the warmer it became.

The course was in great condition as always, fairways had some run and the greens played as they can only do at Pattavia – fast.  Three putts were not uncommon on the day and occasionally more putts were required.  That’s Pattavia!

Two flights were the order of the day and in A Flight our resident Irish funny man JJ Harney was on the ball with a very good score of 40 points that kept all others at bay.  Five points back and taking out second was Martin Kempton, while three players returning the same score of 34 points battled it for third spot; Denis Steele securing the bragging rights over Ricey and Paul Avery.

B-Flight saw two golfers come in with the same score of 34 points, so via the count back system it was Keith Buchanan that took the top spot from Lindsay Slender.  As in A-Flight, we also had a three-way tie for third on 32 points that was edged by Mike Gosden on count back over Tony Cook and Mikito Homma.

Thursday, Sept. 22, Treasure Hill – Stableford

Twenty-three golfers set out from The Swan on Thursday, the weather being very doubtful and on arrival at the course we asked the marshal if carts were allowed on the course – his response being “We have had no rain”.  Game on!

Once again the course was in excellent condition, and when you consider that Bt.1,000 covers green fee, cart and caddie it really is a great deal.  The best news is that they are now extending this offer through October, so we will consider two games again for the upcoming month.

We played 2 flights and A Flight was taken out by Bill Steinmann with 35 points, with John Davis a few strokes back in second and Mashi Kaneta hot on John’s heels to take third.

B flight was a different kettle of fish, with 3 players all returning the same score and positions on the podium sorted via the count back system.  At the end of the calculations, Keith Buchanan took out first place followed by Patrick Poussier in second and John Edwards third.
