International windsurfers vie for honours in Jomtien

Former Pattaya Mayor Ittipol Khunpleum, the current standing President of the Windsurfing Association of Thailand, chaired a medal ceremony on January 23 to commemorate the achievements of sailors competing in the Thailand Windsurfing Championships & Pattaya International Windsurfing Cup 2017, which took place off Jomtien Beach from January 21-22.

Eight nations took part in the 2-day event, namely Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea, India, Cambodia, Italy and host nation Thailand.  The sailors competed in several separate categories based on age, experience and windsurf board and sail design.  There were no cash prizes on offer but the top three of each class group received medals, trophies and certificates.

The winners of the various categories were as follows (Thai nationality unless otherwise stated): Student Beginners (5sq.m. sail) 1st place Ratchaan Hongbin, Student Beginners (6sq.m. sail) 1st place Sutipong Kamchaidee, Slalom B 1st place Patipon Wilai, Slalom A 1st Watrapong Chantaam, Techno 293 Girls (not older than 17 years) 1st place Mak Ching Wing (Hong Kong), Techno 293 Boys (not older than 17 years) 1st place Edoardo Tanas (Italy), RS 1 (Women) 1st place Siripon Gaeoduangnaam, RS 1 (Men) 1st place Nattapong Ponprat, RSX (Women & Youth) 1st place Ratwin Ramadan (Indonesia), RSX (Men) 1st place Lee Dae Hun (South Korea).
