IPGC Golf from The Tara Court Golf Society

Sunday, August 16, Green Valley – Stableford

Back at Green Valley today for our usual Sunday game.  We just had a small group out as there doesn’t seem to be many golfers around this year for low season, however, it also means that everyone can get around much more quickly and makes it more enjoyable.  Today we got around in less than four hours, which is quick for Thailand.

We had only one of our group who managed to beat his handicap, that being Alec Hoare who had a very credible 38 points and was a clear winner.  In second place three points adrift was Alan Parker and third went to Paul Pavloff a further point back.  Paul also got the only ‘2’ of the day to make it a good payday for him.

2nd Alan Parker (8) 35pts

Tuesday, August 18, Mt. Shadow – Stabelford

Mountain Shadow was today’s challenge and we arrived to find the course in excellent condition.  On the way there we passed the large reservoir on the left and it was almost empty, obviously because this year there has been so little rain so we were expecting the course to be very dry and hard, but not so.  They must have a very good water supply of their own as the fairways were in very good condition and the greens were also excellent and very receptive.  Even off the fairways it was also in great condition with very few burned areas anywhere.

It was very quiet with very few players around, one of the advantages of low season, and once again we got around quickly.

We played off the blue tees and today none of our group managed to play to their handicap, with Alan Bishop being the best on 33 points, two up on Ted Morris in second place after Ted beat Kevin Blake on a count back.

Although we had a small group out we still had five ‘2’s which is unusual on these tricky par threes with their fast greens.  Those claiming a share of the pot were Joe McArdle, Donal McGuigan, Ted Morris, Pat Carty and Declan Kelly.

1st Alan Bishop (22) 33pts

2nd Ted Morris (13) 31pts

3rd Kevin Blake (9) 31pts

Thursday, August  20, Burapha – Stableford

Burapha is another course that obviously has a plentiful supply of water as it was in magnificent condition on Thursday with perfect fairways and greens.  We played what are considered to be the more difficult nines, C and D, and as we had a larger group out we gave a choice of tees, blue or white.

When we started it was very pleasant for golf, not too hot with a nice breeze, but later on it got very, very hot, especially by the time we got to the back nine.  There were very few people around, especially when taking into account that the A and B nines were closed and that it was also Sport Day, but it made it all the more enjoyable for us.

Maybe it was the heat that caused it but the scoring wasn’t very good.  Pat Carty won the blue flight with 34 points on a count back over Wichai Tananusorn while Lyle Blaw was third with 33.

In the white flight the scoring was even worse, with Tony Aston being surprised that he won with 29 points while Dave Kinsella and John Dearden battled for the minor podium spots on just 24 points each.

There were no ‘2’s today.

Blue Flight

1st Pat Carty (24) 34pts

2nd Wichai Tananusorn (7) 34pts

3rd Lyle Blaw (10) 33pts

White Flight

1st Tony Aston (29) 29pts

2nd Dave Kinsella (18) 24pts

3rd John Dearden (19) 24pts
