IPGC Golf from The Tara Court Golf Group

Sunday, May 31, Green Valley – Stableford

We arrived in Green Valley expecting to find the greens in poor condition as the management had previously informed us that they were starting to pole fork and sand them.  Actually they were ok, if a little slower than usual, and the staff seemed to have put only a very light coat of sand on them.  They certainly didn’t stop some of our group from returning a few very good scores.

Rod Torrie had thirty-five points for fourth place and also recorded the only ‘2’ of the day.  Declan Kelly is just back from a holiday in Ireland and had thirty seven-points to come third while Russell Gilroy is having an unbelievable run over the past few weeks and despite the handicap coming down he had what he probably thought was enough to win again with forty points.  But unfortunately for him it was only good enough for second.

Michael Healy, who has arrived on a short holiday, was the man of the match today, scoring an excellent forty-two points to take top spot on the podium.

1st Michael Healy (18) 42pts

2nd Russell Gilroy (16) 40pts

3rd Declan Kelly (13) 37pts

4th Rod Torrie (15) 35pts

Tuesday, June 2, Khao Kheow – Stableford

We were back at Khao Kheow today after a long absence.  I am not sure why we don’t come here more often as it is probably the best and most difficult course in the area and we will be adding it to our schedule a lot more often in the future.  We played B and C nines and while some of the fairways on B weren’t perfect, overall the course was in very condition and the greens excellent.

The difficulty of the course was reflected in the scores and only one golfer managed to break his handicap.  This was Ger Lodge who won the day with thirty-seven points.  Two others, Ricky Hurley and Michael Healy, managed to play to their handicaps, with Ricky coming second on a count back.  Joe McArdle was fourth a further point back, edging Joe Peters on a count back.

We had three ‘2’s today from Ger Lodge, Joe McArdle and Joe Peters.  Ger got his with an eagle on a par four, and not just any par four but on the Index one and picked up six points in the process.

1st Ger Lodge (20) 37pts

2nd Ricky Hurley (7) 36pts

3rd Michael Healy (18) 36pts

4th Joe McArdle (13) 35pts

5th Joe Peters (22) 35pts

Thursday, June 4, Burapha – Stableford

Russell Gilroy did it again!  At Burapha today on the difficult C and D courses, and off the long blue tees, Russell again came in with thirty-eight points to have a clear win.  Russell has been playing great golf over the past few weeks and despite losing a shot on his handicap nearly every week he just changes gear and steps up his game and wins again, both here and at Green Valley.

Michael Healy, on his last day with us before heading back to sunny Ireland, came second with thirty-five points and one further point back in third was Wichai Tanasusorn.  Declan Kelly took up the last place on the podium with thirty-three and also had the only ‘2’ of the day.

Some of our players today went off the white tees in a separate competition and in that group Pat Carty was the winner with thirty-five points and John Fenwick was second with twenty nine.

Blue Tees

1st Russell Gilroy (16) 38pts

2nd Michael Healy (18) 35pts

3rd Wichai Tanasusorn (7) 34pts

4th Declan Kelly (13) 33pts

White Tees

1st Pat Carty (25) 35pts

2nd John Fenwick (21) 29pts
