IPGC golf from The Tara Court

Sunday, Feb. 10, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

Back at Mountain Shadow for our usual Sunday visit where again everything went very smoothly.  When we arrived half an hour before our tee time there were no caddies available but full marks to the caddie-master as he arranged the golf bags in order of play and as caddies came off the course he put the first four with the first group and so on.  We teed off exactly on time and as each group was ready to play he had caddies for them, so no delay for anyone.  Very good organisation and full credit to them!

Play also went very well and we got round in four hours and fifteen minutes, which for a course that was so busy was excellent.  As we had a large group we decided to give everyone a choice of blue or white tees and have two flights.  In the end everyone decided to play off the blue tees, they all fancied themselves as golfers!

The scoring was very good for such a difficult course and Gerry Hannan, on his last game with us for this holiday, came in with 38pts to win from Teddy Lodge on 37.  Ted was also playing his last game for this trip and will be missed very much as he had been checking all the score cards and doing the prize giving.  Pat Culloty came third with 36pts and John Fetherston took fourth after beating Keith Murphy and Joe Peters on a count back.

In the ladies section Theresa Connolly was a clear winner with an excellent 34pts and Kathleen Fetherston came second with 27.

Both Keith Murphy and Gerry Hannan had a ‘2’ each and as there was a carryover from Thursday, both had a good pay day.

1st Gerry Hannan (11) 38pts

2nd Teddy Lodge (9) 37pts

3rd Pat Culloty (20) 36pts

4th John Fetherston (11) 34pts

5th Keith Murphy (17) 34pts

‘2’s:  Keith Murphy and Gerry Hannan

Tuesday, Feb. 12, Pattana – Stableford

Pattana today for another enjoyable game of golf and although the course was busy we got off five minutes before our allotted time.  Everything was going smoothly until we caught up with a Korean ladies five-ball and then it slowed down dramatically, however we still got round in 4hrs 15mins, which is not bad.

We played the A and B courses and the layout was in very good condition with the greens reasonably fast.

As was to be expected on a difficult course, the scoring was not great with only one player playing to his handicap, that being Frank McGowan with 36pts.  Terry Kelly, after winning on Sunday, had to settle for second today with 33pts and on his last game with us for this year, Keith Murphy was third, also with 33, while John Fetherston took fourth with 30.  Don Byrne beat your scribe on a count back for fifth place with 29pts.

There were three birdie ‘2’s recorded today.

Back in O’Gara’s Bar we said good bye to Keith Murphy, Mark Snow and Peter Murphy, all of whom were going home this week.

1st Frank McGowan (16) 36pts

2nd Terry Kelly (15) 33pts

3rd Keith Murphy (17) 33pts

4th John Fetherston (11) 30pts

5th Don Byrne (12) 29pts

2’s: Theresa Connolly, Peter Murphy, Frank McGowan.
