Monday, Dec. 5, Phoenix Gold – Stableford

Phoenix was the challenge on a great day for golf with high cloud cover and a gentle breeze blowing.  The course was in great condition with rather lush fairways and fast greens on the Ocean side

Paul Hack and Peter Bird.

It was a 3-way count back for the minor podium places with Hans Lemstra missing out altogether, Francis Goyons taking fourth place and his good friend Thiery Petrement in third, all with 36 points.  Coming in second was the man of the moment Peter Bird with 38 points and top spot went to Paul Hack with a fine 40 points.

There were no ‘2’ today.

Wednesday, Dec. 7, Green Valley – Stableford

Green Valley came up next on Wednesday with 9 groups playing and we got away to an early start in perfect conditions for golf.  We had 3 groups of ladies who always enjoy themselves and you can hear them all over the course.

Green Valley is in great condition apart from being very wet on the surrounds of the greens, but the fairways and greens themselves are just tremendous.

The podium places were taken by Bob Newell with 35 points in third, Sel Wegner (37pts) in second and the winner by a country mile was Wayne Cotterell with a magnificent 44 points that equated to 79 gross.

Recording a ‘2’ on your card doesn’t mean you have to make the green in one shot, as runner-up Sel proved today by getting two of them, both from off the green.  The other five ‘2’s came from John Player, Howard Marson, Jeff North, Bob Newell and Auke.

Friday, Dec. 9, Greenwood – Stableford

Greenwood came to the rescue today as we were mucked around by Bangpra with the timing of our booking, which was changed by the management at the last minute without telling.  Greenwood is in great condition at the moment with greens that are something else again, talk about fast – they were magnificent.  Some of the fairways were a little bit wet in parts but you couldn’t complain.

Thinking we were in for a long day the starter he let us go off the C loop first and it was a clear field in front of us.  It was a tough day out for some of the troops but an enjoyable one all the same.

Third place on the day went to Alan Bartlett with 35 points and it was then a count back between Freddy Starbeck and John Anderson for top spot, both with 36 points.  After the count back Freddy got shuffled into second with John having the better back-nine.

There was only one ‘2’, coming from Howard Marson and must have been a great shot as most of the par-3’s here are in the 200 yard range.
