PSC golf from The Growling Swan

Monday, May 26, Bangpakong – Stableford

With the smallish field we had just the one division with 5 places and there were also rewards for nearest the pin on two of the par 3’s and longest first putt on the 18th green.

There were 2 golfers who had no trouble at all with the greens and scored 44 points each and the resultant count back saw Takeshi Hakozaki (24 point back nine) being declared the winner, with John Davis (23 point back nine) in second place.  Then came three players all with 39 points, which meant another count back that left Nolan “Notso” Wise (21 point back nine & 14 points on the last 6 holes) finish third from Mark “Westy” West (21 point back nine and 13 points on the last 6 holes) in fourth place and Nigel Cannon (19 point back nine) taking fifth.

Thursday, May 29, Mt. Shadow – Stroke/Monthly Mug

We had an excellent field of 31 for this the May Monthly Mug competition.  In addition to the main award we were able to have 2 divisions with 5 prizes in each division plus rewards for nearest the pins all the par threes and longest first putts on the 9th & 18th greens.

Probably our most consistent golfer at the minute is Gerd Riedler and he was the winner of the Mug (his second) with a fine net 71.

In B Division the winner was Gary Monley with net 75, Andrew “Turtle” Allen came second with a net 78 and Fred Dineley was third with a net 81.  There were 2 golfers tied on net 83 and the resultant count back determined that Frank “Woody” Donnelly (net 40 back nine) finished in fourth place from Geri Crilly (net 41 back nine) in fifth spot.

I had the pleasure of marking the Division A winner’s card, and playing some excellent golf it was Ebrahim who finished in first place with an outstanding 44 points.  There were 2 golfers with 37 points so a count back was necessary to decide the minor placings and as a result it was John Davis (16 point back nine) who finished second ahead of your writer Peter “Blacky” Blackburn (15 point back nine) in third spot.

In Division B Geri Crilly was declared the winner with 37 points with Russell Calcutt second on 36 and Nolan “Notso” Wise finished third with 35.

Thursday, June 5, Treasure Hill – Stableford

After some heavy overnight rain it was a gloomy Thursday morning as we made our way up 331 to the challenging Treasure Hill Golf Course.  Our first four ball got away at 9.50 am in very light drizzling rain which soon stopped and the golf course was in terrific shape and just gets better all the time.

A Division winner was your writer, Peter “Blacky” Blackburn with 37 points and Mike Allidi came second with 35.  With 3 golfers scoring 34 points a count back was required which resulted in third place being awarded to Mashi Kaneta (17 point back nine) with Gerd Riedler (16 point back nine) and Ebrahim (15 point back nine) just missing out.

Ian Steele was the winner of Division B with 30 points and John Anderson was second on 27, with Sandy “Cindy Lauper” Leiper in third spot with 25.
