Riverside – Stableford

We had a large turnout for this day but we all teed off on time and in good order.  This is a great course but at times it does seem to get congested.  The layout was in fine condition, the fairways were well grassed and the greens were a bit slow but all in all it was a pleasure to play.

We got back to base really late, for us, so it was soon into the results with many of the winners missing as home beckoned.

In the A Flight, 0 to 17, the winner was Richard Kubicki with 40 points, just one ahead of Rob Brown in second with 39.  Steve Truelove was a further point back in third with 38 points taking fourth was Andre Van Dyk with 33 on count-back over Andy Murray.

The winner in the B Flight, 18 to 25, was Brian Gabe with a best of the day 41 points.  In second was Walter Baechli with 35 points ahead of Graham Buckingham in third with 33.  Taking fourth was Joe Sparwith with 32 points on count-back over Dick Warberg.

In the C Flight, 26 up, the winner was Torsten Bischoff with 37 points ahead of a count-back on 34 that saw Frank Xin in second and George King in third.  In fourth place was Karen Brown with 32 points on count-back over Henry Wong.

The best front nine from non-winners was 19 points by Dick Warberg and 18 points on the back nine by John Davis.

Friday, Jan. 26, Crystal Bay – Stableford

It’s busy time at Tropical Golf, and today we had thirty-one golfers signed up for the trip to Crystal Bay.

Due to construction delays it took over two hours to get to the course and tee times were missed on a busy day, forcing the staff at CB to scramble to fit in groups well over an hour late.  To their credit eventually all groups got underway, but on different nines.

The consensus is the course conditions would be considered “fair”.  A few greens were in need of repair but most were just fine.

In A-Flight (0-16), John Davis (c/h 13) kept his winning run going with 36 points, winning on a narrow count-back over Rob Brown (10).  Brian Parish (11) had a fine 35 points to take third and was followed by Paul Sharples (16) taking final place on count-back.

B-Flight (17-22) saw Tom Herrington (17) post the best score of the day with 39 points, followed by Dick Warberg (19) with 37.  Mick Coghlan (21) took the next spot with 33 points, and a surprised Paul Weatherley (20) took the final place with 31.

Jim Ferris (24) won C-Flight (23+) with 35 points, barely edging out Dave Cooper (23) and Karen Brown (38) at the 34 mark.  The ever-present Torsten Bishoff (26) took the final flight step with 30 points.

Best nines (non winners) came from Arne Jorgensen and Takeshi Hakozaki.
