Monday, August 19, Plutaluang – Stableford

We now alternate our nines here and today we booked the East and South courses, which made a change from the tough West and North rounds we normally play.  It is great value here for two people sharing a cart with the green fee and caddy fee as well.

There were six groups out today with the cut at 10-18 and 19 plus in division 2 and in this division Alan Bissell came in with 39 points to take the top podium position.  Lee Casey picked up second place with 36 points after beating Roar Berger on a 20/19 back nine count back.

There was an even higher winning score in division 1 for in-form Billy Fitzgerald who came in with 40 points.  The frog, alias Jean Morel, took second spot two points behind Billy, and Bryan Rought beat Mike Chatt and Lindsay Phillips for third on a 20/17/15 back nine count back, all scoring 35 points.

Billy Fitzgerald birdied the 4th on the South course and John Oxley the 5th on the East to share the ‘2’s pot in division 1, while in division 2 Lee Casey and Peter Davies were happy with their ‘2’s.

Near pins went to Billy Fitzgerald (2), John Oxley, Peter Davies, Bruce Gardner and Jean Morel (2).

Wednesday, August 21, Pleasant Valley – Stableford

This is becoming a popular venue for the majority of our players and we are now here every four weeks and we started off the 10th today as the first tee was quite busy.

Paul Butler, playing off 16, won division 1 with 38 points after beating Simon Tillbrook on a 21/18 back nine count back and and in the news again, Billy Fitzgerald beat Grenville Hill 22/17 after they both came in with 37 points.  The scissors will be out soon!

Martyn Arnold, the Cathay Pacific A380 captain, topped division 2 with 34 points after beating Jonny Larsson by one point and Anna Marie Usher, playing off the white tees, by two points.

There were two new names in the ‘2’s with Terry Madsen in division 1 and Bryan Priestley in division 2, with birdies on the 8th and 13th respectively.

Near pin awards were picked up by Billy Fitzgerald, Lindsay Phillips, Steve Richardson (2), Roar Berger, Paul Hartley (2) and Jonny Larsson.

Friday, August 23, Eastern Star – Rainbow Stableford

This was our fun rainbow stableford game that we have here every three months courtesy of the rollover kitty.  Every player must select 6 red, 6 white and 6 blue tees to play from and this is a game of logic, knowing which tees to play from and working the scenario out a few days before playing.

The cut today was 4-16 and 17 plus in division 2 and there were some surprisingly low scores coming in.  Our thoughts were between 36 and 39 in each division but this was not the case as Iain Walsh won division 2 with 35 points, the organizer came second on 32 and Alan Bissell took third with 30.

Bill Bertram was the winner in division 1 with 33 points, beating Paul Butler by one who in turn edged Tony Thorne on a 19/17 back-nine count back.

The weather was perfect here today with an overcast sky and a cool breeze coming off the coast and also the course condition had improved a lot since our moans two weeks ago.

Paul Butler got the only ‘2’ of the day on the 13th and guess what, playing off the ladies tee.

Near pins went to Steve Richardson, Marty Rock, Tony Thorne, Alan Bissell and Sid Ottaway (2).

Technical prizes in 2 or 3 shots nearestto the pin were awarded to the following: Martin Grimoldby (2), Rod Howett, Simon Tillbrook (2), Marty Rock, Martyn Arnold (2), Karl Flood, Iain Walsh, Steve Richardson, Tony Thorne and Alan Bissell.

It was a great fun day out which everyone enjoyed, especially those players who had not heard or played this format before.
