PSC golf from Tropical Bert’s
Tuesday, Sept. 13, Khao Kheow – Stableford
It had been pouring down here in Pattaya for days, with Sunday being the heaviest, so on the way to Bert’s on Tuesday we all wondered whether Khao Kheow would be fit to play. The course is notoriously susceptible to soft ground when there has been a lot of rain and it did not look good on this day.
The morning meet at Bert’s was somber, still after one of Bert’s breakfasts it was into the cars and down to Khao Kheow. Rain could be seen falling over the hills, however we were soon at the course and booking in. The instruction from the reception was not surprising, “no carts off the path”, so it was off to the changing room and then to the start.
Tuesday’s top three: Daryl Evans, Mike Gaussa and Dick Warberg.
The test for the day was to be the C & A nines, and we were soon underway. Whilst it was windy the course was not as wet as we expected, more like pretty damp. Still the day was difficult with an occasional spitty rain; then it got humid, hot and sweaty. The fairways were not bad but the greens were still quick if not at top speed. Suffice to say we got around. Half way around we were even allowed to drive in the rough!
The showers were a welcome relief, as was a cold drink and a bit of food in the restaurant. Then back to Bert’s.
Back at the ranch it was soon time for the presentation, and most winners seemed to come from the same four-ball, and not mine. So the winner was Daryl Evans with 37 points ahead of a count back on 36 points that saw Mike Gaussa in second and Dick Warberg in third. In fourth we had Mikito Homma on count back over Don Carmody, both on 32 points.
Near pins went to Mashi Kaneta, Derek Brook, Mike Gaussa and Don Carmody.
Presentation over, we then got stuck into the ‘Happy Hour’. T.T.F.N.
