PSC Golf from The Outback Golf Bar

Monday, Feb. 16, Burapha – Stableford

Five groups played A and B from the longer blue tees for a change, which were all back and played the full yardage of 6721 yards.  With a rating and slope of 73.2/131, all players received substantial changes between their Handicap Index and their actual course playing handicap, ranging from John Cunningham (from 5.3 to 7) up to say Ivan Plunkett (from 24.3 to 29).  The good scores showed the advantage of using the slope and index properly to determine the handicaps for the course and tees played.

Ed Turner had another fine round to have the day’s best score of 38 points, winning Div B from Gareth Hearne (36) and Jimmy Little third with 34.  Mr. Consistency a.k.a. John Cunningham won the top division with 36 points ahead of Peter Nixon (34) and Jim Black 32.

Jim Brackett had the only ‘2’ on A6.

Tuesday, Feb. 17, Phoenix (Lake & Ocean) – Stableford

11 players at our newly introduced spot every Tuesday here at Phoenix, where the winner takes all.  This week Phoenix member Terry O’Connor cleaned up, romping home five points clear of the field to shoot a gross 79 (38pts) and pocket all the spoils.

There were no ‘2’s, so the usual ‘2’s pot went to the second placed player, who was the day’s organiser, Andre, on 33 points after beating Geoff Stimpson on count back.

2nd Andre Coetzee (06) 33pts

Wednesday, Feb. 18, Khao Kheow – Stableford

Khao Kheow remains in excellent condition and deserves its place on anyone’s playing schedule.  The 21 Outbackers were on B & C course today from the yellow tees.

John Stafford.John Stafford.

Don’t forget, the handicaps you are seeing here are the course handicaps for the day, not the players’ PSC Index’s; not that it would have made much difference to the winner, Peter Erikson who was walking on water.  Peter fired a superb 73 gross to amass 41 points playing off 6.  With it, he was into General Jack’s pocket to the tune of 500 baht bonus to spend in the bar on the day, easily beating the target of 39 points.

Pat Regan, Angus Neilson and Eddie O’Meara also got very close all with 38 points; Pat and Angus filling the minor places in Div A, whilst Eddie won Div B.

There were four ‘2’s from Angus Neilson (B3) and Peter Nixon, Eddie O’Meara & Ed Turner all on the island green (B8).

Both Eddie O’Meara and Eamon Doyle played from the silver tees and had their handicaps adjusted accordingly.

Outback opinion: Weather – hot & sticky, improved on back 9; Check-in – quick and friendly; Tee time – early; Fairways – good; Rough – light; Greens – good; Bunkers – soft sand, easy to poach an egg; Value for money – excellent; Pace of play – just over 4 hours; Drink stations open – all open; Restaurant – good.

1st Peter Erikson (06) 41pts

2nd Pat Regan (15) 38pts

3rd Angus Neilson (09) 38pts

Div B (20+)

1st Eddie O’Meara (20) 38pts

2nd Tim Knight (28) 35pts

3rd Eamon Doyle (25) 35pts

Friday, Feb. 20, Green Valley – Stableford

36 players at Green Valley today, mostly playing from the white tees but we had one group of four who gave the blue tees a try.  Two of them, Jon & Kalle, did pretty good, both scoring 34 points, but the other two should remain anonymous, shouldn’t you Angus?

The day’s top score was 40 points from Greg LeBlanc in Div C, who his division comfortably (6pts) from Gareth Hearn (34), Jorn Finnerup (29) and Tim Knight also on 29.
