Sunday, August 30, Green Valley – Stableford

A Flight

1st Nick Odnoral (16) 34pts

2nd JP Maffray (13) 34pts

3rd Bob St Aubin (13) 31pts

B Flight

1st Nick Shaw (19) 40pts

2nd Mickey Beresford (18) 39pts

3rd Eddy Beilby (20) 39pts

A little more than our usual low season numbers turned out for our Sunday bash at Green Valley.  It was very hot on the first tee so those with carts seemed to have an advantage already.  Luckily before long a breeze got up and it turned into a pleasant day.

Nick Shaw.Nick Shaw.

Scoring was a bit patchy, especially in the premier flight, but the course could not be blamed as it was in excellent condition with greens running fast and true.  For some of us it took a while to get the pace of them, some others never did, and unless you were below the hole two-putting was you’re only thought.

B Flight mastered the conditions best with Nick ‘Elvis’ Shaw winning with a sparkling man of the match 40 points.  Mickey ‘nine holes’ Beresford and Eddy ‘the Eagle’ Beilby were tied on excellent 39 point returns and when the dust had settled it was Mickey’s back  nine that shone brightest, leaving ‘the Eagle’ perched on the bronze step of the podium.

The A Flight boys struggled with the conditions as Aussie star Nick Odnoral and JP Maffray were locked on 34 points each.  In the resulting count back it was Nick who emerged on top while the bronze was presented to Canada’s Bob St Aubin with 31 points.

Tuesday, Sept. 1, Treasure Hill – Stableford

1st Kevin Rogers (14) 39pts

2nd Peter Henshaw (25) 29pts

3rd Bruce Walters (27) 23pts

Treasure Hill was once upon a time the favourite of many players, including myself.  Today it is a little bit of a faded glory but still well worth a visit and it was set to be our test today.

Once out on the course we noticed it was in pretty good condition and the fairways were good, with the rough long at times and the bunkers needed a bit of attention, but I suppose we should not be in them!

Aussie Kevin Rogers was the star of the show with an amazing man of the match 39 points and was also the only player to better his handicap.  Kevin was ten strokes clear of Irishman Peter ‘no nickname’ Henshaw who in turn was six stokes clear of Bruce Walters and John Ianson, both with 23 points; when the count back was worked out it was Bruce who stood on the third podium step head bent as John was left at sea level and pot less

Friday, Sept. 4, Greenwood – Stableford

Today the Lewiinski’s gang traveled up the Highway 331 to take on the always tough Greenwood layout.  They found the course in fine condition and the weather was hot with a fair breeze making it an ideal day for golf.

Whilst playing the outer nine the sky started to blacken and the wind got up before a full force gale hit the course.  The lads made their way to the nearest drink stops and after about an hour, with no let up in sight, the lads decide to give it up as lightning bolts struck all around the course.  Aussie star Kevin was as sick as a pig as he was well on the way to making it two match wins on the trot as he scored a splendid 21 points on the outer nine.
