PSC Bunker Boys @ The Bowling Green

Monday, July 16, Royal Lakeside – Stableford

Today was definitely worth the slightly longer trip than normal, as we arrived at Royal Lakeside to find the course in truly excellent condition.  Before the course was revamped it was a regular occurrence for someone to score 40 points or more, but nowadays it’s unusual for anyone to better their handicap.  With the addition of a lot more bunkers, contoured greens and changing the layout of several holes, bringing the water much more into play, the course now presents a tough test of golf.

Lee Butler certainly managed to better his handicap coming in with an impressive score of 41 points to win the day by a comfortable five point margin, thereby earning himself an instant cut in the process!

Wednesday, July 18, The Emerald – Stableford

A good turnout today for our regular visit to this always popular course; coincidentally located in Ban Chang.  The course was empty and in good shape apart from the greens on the back nine which had been recently cored, making putting a bit of a lottery.  If you have a lottery, then there’s usually a winner, and today it was Paul Edgar who managed to one putt five greens on the back nine holes, scoring 23 points in the process.  Paul’s total of 41 points made him the comfortable winner on the day and also brought him into contention for the Golfer of the Month.

1st Paul Edgar (19) 41pts

2nd John Graham (10) 36pts

3rd Peter Habgood (19) 35pts

Friday, July 20, Green Valley – Stableford

We managed to leave one golfer at the Bowling Green today, the unfortunate one being Richard, who decided to go to the bank and didn’t tell anyone he was playing!

Green Valley isn’t the best value for money around at the moment, at 1,300 Baht green fee and caddy, but the course is in excellent condition, so most players felt it was worth it.

We started promptly at 11a.m. with no other golfers in front or behind, but unfortunately it started raining lightly on the 4th and didn’t stop till the 18th.  The rain didn’t affect the scores though with Peter Habgood returning to form, scoring 39 points, finishing just one point ahead of Barry Murnin.

1st Peter Habgood (19) 39pts

2nd Barry Murnin (15) 38pts

3rd Paul Edgar (18) 35pts

Near Pins:  John Graham, Gerry Cooney and Reg Smart.

The race for the Golfer of the Month title is close between the three front runners, John Graham, Barry Murnin, and Paul Edgar with only 3 points separating them.  If Lee Butler can stay off the beer and fit a few more games in, he’ll also be in contention.

Note:  The Bunker Boys are a PSC affiliated golf society who now play out of the Bowling Green on Soi X-Zyte between Pattaya 3rd Road and Soi Buakhao.  We play three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, so if you enjoy a fun day out, and a friendly but competitive golf competition why not come and join us.

We meet at the Bowling Green at 9 a.m. for breakfast and transportation, and new players with valid handicaps are always welcome.  For more information call Dave on 087 146 9978, email [email protected].
