Thirty two players arrived at Green Valley in good time and we were able to tee off early, which is a rare event at this course.  The weather was hot and humid and the course was in good condition, so we progressed without any hold ups.  Three flights with three places in each were required.

Colin ‘the Donkey’ Davis took the top spot in C Flight and the man of the match honours with a splendid 42 points.  Terry ‘pork chop’ Mangan filled the silver podium spot with a steady 37 and Aiden Murray completed the podium a further shot in arrears.

A Flight was the domain of the man riding a purple patch, Peter ‘the right honorable’ LeNoury, who scored a sound 38 points for first place.  Peter , who was also the sole heir to the ‘2’s pot, was one stroke clear of David Rose as two players were knotted on even par rounds, with Ian Pickles edging Stuart Brown for third place.

B Flight was decided by another count back as Fred Birch’s back-nine relegated Terry ‘pork chop’ Mangan to the second rung on the ladder.  Aiden Murray rounded out the flight with an even par effort

Monday, Nov. 21, Crystal Bay B & C – Stableford

B Flight

C Flight

2nd Mick Coghlan (25) 40pts

3rd Tore Eliassen (22) 37pts

On Monday, golfers from Lewiinski’s and Colin’s Bar played the B & C layouts at Crystal Bay.  The temperature was very pleasant and a few rain clouds threatened us all day.  However we managed to get round and the rain poured down on the way back to town.

The greens on the C course were true but a bit slow while the B course greens were faster but lacking grass and at one point I wanted to call the putting surfaces browns instead of greens.

There were 34 players out to day so three Flights were called for and again the scoring was of a very good standard.

The man of the match came out of C Flight where Marcus Earp scored a fantastic 44 points.  Marcus was four clear of the very impressive performance by Mick Coghlan, leaving Tore Eliassen to close the flight with fine 37 points.

The top spot in the premier flight was an excellent 40 points from Reg McKay, followed by John Harrison and Kevin ‘the ‘Offaly gang leader’ McEntee, both with steady 37 point efforts.  The ensuing count back dictated that they ascended the podium in that order.

Gerry ‘the Irish rover’ Cooney stood atop the B Flight podium with a sparkling 41 points.  Brian Dolan took the silver step with a solid 39 points as the Belle of the Bar, Tina Orth, completed the scoring with a very creditable 37 points.

Wednesday, Nov. 23, Khao Kheow B & C – Stableford

A Flight

1st Kevin McEntee (10) 44 pts

2nd Olaf Schneeberg (13) 39pts

3rd Peter Hynard (12) 37pts

B Flight

1st Marcos Earp (29) 39pts

2nd Tina Orth (23) 37pts

3rd Paddy Jordan (24) 35pts

2’s: Peter Hynard Terry Smith

Long Putts: Derek Briton

Khao Kheow has been on the rotation for quite a few years now but we never tire of playing it.  The course was in great shape on this day and we were allotted the B & C nines.

Kevin McEntee took this difficult course apart with a man of the match 44 points (gross 74) off his 10 handicap.  Kevin’s back nine contained two bogies on the par fives the rest he either had a par or a birdie.

Olaf Schneeberg followed Kevin up the podium steps with a fine 39 points while Peter Hynard closed the flight with a solid 37.

Marcus Earp outgunned the B Flight lads with a rock solid 39 points and was two clear of the Tina Orth.  Paddy Jordan brought out the broom to sweep up any leftover B Flight lucre.

Friday, Nov. 25, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

A Flight

1st Chris Martin (15) 38pts

2nd Geoff Bracegirdle (17) 33pts

3rd Oliver Orth (12) 30pts

B Flight

1st Micki Proebsling (36) 40pts

2nd Barry Oats (27) 31pts

3rd Michael Swan (23) 31pts

Friday we played Mountain Shadow with twenty one players from Lewiinski’s and Colin’s Bar golf societies.  No rain appeared and we were in for a beautiful sunny day, although the temperature was very warm.

The course was in fine shape although for most of us wish the same could have been said about the scores as only two players bettered their handicap.

B Flight took the bragging rights today and the man they sent to do it was Micki Proebsling who posted an excellent 40 points.  Micki was followed up the podium steps at a distance by Barry Oats and Michael Swan, both with 31 points and Barry taking the silver with a back nine score of 19 to Michael’s 11.

Standing atop of the premier flight was Chris Martin with a splendid 38 points while Geoff Bracegirdle took the flight silver with 33.  Two players were knotted on 30 points and with only one podium spot remaining the bitter pill of defeat was left to Terry Smith as his back nine of 15 was insufficient to edge Oliver Orth off the podium.
