Monday, May 23, Pleasant Valley – Stableford

When we teed-off today we thought we had the course to ourselves, but when we were informed by the starter that there was a Thai seven-ball about three holes in front of us we were dreading the worst!  However for once it was no problem as they were perfect gentlemen and stopped playing immediately we came into sight and allowed us to play through.  (If only it was like this all the time).

The course was in quiet good condition except for the greens which were a bit lumpy and bumpy with a lot of sand on them.  Hopefully they will improve over the next few weeks.  Anyway, this was everyone’s excuse for their abysmally low scores.

Dave Done. Dave Done.

You could have knocked Tony Duthie over with a feather when he heard he had won the day with a very mediocre 31 points.  Second place was won on a 14-13 count-back by Miss On.

Both near pins meanwhile went to Ed Wyckoff.

1st Tony Duthie (19) 31pts

2nd On Soduk (22) 29pts

3rd John Coetzee (19) 29pts

Wednesday, May 25, Green Valley – Stableford

The Gods looked down on us favourably today because we managed to complete the round dry.  All we had were a few spots of rain while it seemed that all around us it was thunder and lightning with heavy rain.  In the gloom of the dark sky Dave Done shone out like a glittering diamond and produced his best round of golf since his arrival here in Thailand.  He also got sweet revenge on his arch rival (Steady Eddie) Tony, thrashing him by a massive six shots.

Near pins went to Brian Maddox and Tony Duthie.

1st Dave Done (15) 40pts

2nd John Coetzee (19) 35pts

3rd Tony Duthie (19) 34pts

Friday, May 27, Greenwood – Stableford

We were lucky with the weather again today as we were delayed by 15 minutes at the start by a heavy shower, and also as we came off the ninth green the heavens opened up once again, so we were held up for another 15 minutes.  No sooner had we completed our round before the rain came back for a third visit, this time with thunder and lightning.  We decided to dwell at the club house a little longer than normal and get wet inside rather than out, until the storm subsided for our journey home.

Once back at the Fairways for the presentation it turned out that Scott Dobbins had won the day with a steady round of 35 points.  He also had a near pin, as did Yohanness (who earlier in the week had been robbed).  Fortunately due to some honest Thai taxi drivers the culprit was caught and he got most of his belongings back, but alas not his beloved golf clubs.

1st Scott Dobbins (0) 35pts

2nd John Coetzee (19) 33pts

3rd John Haddon (25) 32pts
