Sunday, April 23, Silky Oak – Stableford

We had a good turnout for our first visit to Silky Oak for quite a while, 26 players with 24 in the comp.  While there were a lot of good performances there were also a lot of horrible scores as well, as the scribe can testify.  The new 15th hole yielded a combined 26 points from the 24 cards returned – but it can only get better.

In A flight it was Gabe Dakwa who coped best with the conditions and recorded a splendid 41 points.  He was followed up the podium steps by Ian Pickles who edged out the ever-present Fred Birch on count back over the last six holes, both with 39 points overall.

It was Stan Smith’s turn to top the podium in B flight, also with 39 points and also on a count back, this time over the unlucky Frank Tordeur.  Straight off the overnight plane from Japan was Aki Yamamoto whose 34 points gave him third place.

Near pins went to Frank Tordeur, Paul West, Peter Lenoury, Ian Pickles and Fred Birch while the long putt award was won by John Heffernan.
