PSC golf from The Growling Swan

Monday, Dec. 8, Mountain Shadow – Stableford

Despite an early tee time, the core died in the wool saddled up for yet another adventure.  The course was in great nick and the greens putted truly.

There was only one welcome handed out today, which may very well turn into a farewell as big Graham Rice threw his shoulder out, forcing him to take an early shower.  Good luck Graham, let’s hope it’s not too long till you’re back.

We ran with one division only and the honours went to Fred Cuypers with 35 points, two up on Ebrahim in second while Sandy Leiper completed the podium in third.

The Compass Cap was awarded to the aforementioned Graham Rice who unfortunately wasn’t able to complete the course.

Thursday, Dec. 11, Treasure Hill – Stableford

It was a hive of activity in Soi Chaiyapoon as the troops gathered for today’s challenge.  Upon arriving at the course the management made us very welcome and the book-in was handled quickly and efficiently by the lady receptionist.  The green fee, caddy and cart deal at 1600 baht was great value and we’ll be back next month.

A big welcome was handed out to Billy Beers from Northern Ireland and a farewell to Peter Bailey, who is heading back to Australia.

The weather was just perfect with a slight breeze keeping the temperature very pleasant.  As usual the track was very testing with the greens a little inconsistent, resulting in the scores being lower than the nether regions on a sausage dog.

A keenly contested battle saw Bob Akapita win A Flight with thirty five points on a count back from Stu Rifkin, with J.J. Harney gaining a podium finish after handing in thirty three points.

Sandy Leiper, who 2 weeks previously had said his game was as stale as a hot cross bun in August, posted thirty three points to win B Flight.  Mark Stapleton came home with a wet sail, scoring nineteen points on the flip side to total thirty two and edge out John Anderson on a count back.

A Flight (0–17)

Long Putts: Sal Brizzi, Andrew Allen.

Despite having a bag of high tech equipment that would have put a sizeable hole in the defence budget of a small Pacific nation, Russell Calcutt collected the Compass Cap for the lowest score on the day.  Deefa the dog was the happy recipient of many donations for the needy children of Pattaya and the golfers are thanked for their generosity.
