Monday, Sept. 7, Siam Waterside – Stableford

We had four groups playing at the Siam Waterside today in perfect condition, with a light breeze that picked up a bit on the second nine.  This course has to be the best course anywhere, condition wise that is.  If there is such a thing as perfection this place wrote the book on it; the greens were fantastic and the fairways would make some greens on other courses look a bit ordinary.

The scores were really good also today, with not one player over his handicap.  Third place was taken in a three-way count back by Bill Trainer with 38 points, second went Lloyd Shuttleworth on 39 and in first place with a score of 41 points off his 8 handicap was Robert Cross, a great round indeed.

There were two ‘2’s, coming from Noodle Russell and Robert Cross.

We are back at Siam Waterside again on 21st of September and are looking forward to it.

Wednesday, Sept. 9, Green Valley – Stableford

The weather was perfect today and the course in good condition so there was no excuse for the low scores other than it was Kiwi Bill’s and Jarrod Ritchie’s birthday celebrations the night before.  Looking around the first tee the old saying came to mind – if you drink don’t drive, don’t chip or even putt.

Robert Cross with Lloyd Shuttleworth and Bill Trainer.

Tony Oakes had a steady 37 points but was relegated to fourth place by a brace of 38s from Gentry Harrington and Gerry Roche, Gentry having the edge on count back for second.  Auke Engelkes will remember the 15th, 16th and 17th for some time as he birdied all three for 12 stableford points to come home with 40 in total and take the day.

We had 9 ladies playing today and they did somewhat better than their male counterparts, with Miss Saipin playing close to her handicap and notching up 35 points.  But this paled into insignificance against the 40 point totals of Miss Eng and Miss Sa, Sa taking the win after scoring 22 points on the back nine.

Although the greens were close to their best there were only three ‘2’s, going to Miss Eng, Gerry Roche and Auke.

Friday, Sept. 11, Burapha – Stableford

Friday was a lovely day for golf with just some high cloud and a nice breeze to keep us cool.  There was no threat of rain but there had been some over night as the course was a little wet in places.  Burapha is in magnificent condition at the moment with greens that are some of the best around and the lies on the fairways just terrific.

We only had three groups today but it was pure class; taking third place was Alan Beck with 35 points, beating Jim Grieve on a count back, while second went to Lloyd Shuttleworth continuing his good form at the moment with 37 points.  Out in front and leading the way home was Gentry Harrington with a fine 39 points.

There was only one ‘2’, coming from our New Zealand visitor Alan Beck.
