PSC Golf from The Billabong Golf Bar

Monday, August 13, Phoenix Gold – Stableford

Phoenix was the place to be today to play golf in perfect conditions, with just a gentle breeze and high cloud to keep the heat at bay.

Most of the field scored better than 30 points with just a couple beating their handicap to get into the winners’ circle. John Stafford played to his handicap with 36 points to take third spot, second went to Capt Bob with 38 and top of the podium was Sandy Chapo with 39 points, which included wipes on 17 and 18. There were no ‘2’s recorded today.

Wednesday, August 15, Green Valley – Stableford

Green Valley has for some months now been in excellent condition and is a pleasure to play. Any threat of further rain today following a morning shower was swept away by a strong breeze that seemed intent on impressing those on the course and caused a few problems with persistent cross winds. With the exception of one player, the scores were certainly affected.

In the ladies flight, Miss Ooh could only manage 9 points on the last six holes and finished third with 32 points, being edged out by Miss Eng who had 12 points on the back six. Despite 2 blobs on the way home, Miss Am came out on top with 35 points.

Only 7 points on the last 4 holes ruined a chance of third place for Sandy Chapo as he lost out to Wayne Cotterell after both scored 35 points overall, but with Wayne posting 11 over the same closing stretch. John Low with 38 points came second but well behind an immaculate round by Jerry Sweetman who had a level par 9 holes and only 3 dropped shots on the back nine for a grand total of 44 points. As you might expect, he had a birdie on a par three which happened to be the only ‘2’ of the day.

Friday, August 17,
Burapha A & C – Stableford

Burapha today on the A and C loops on a great day for golf and with high cloud and no rain in sight. The course was in fantastic condition and the greens were as good as you would get in this area.

We had 5 groups playing and were away to an early start for a 4 hour round of golf. The scoring was excellent with a countback for fourth place between Brian Wilkinson and Fergus Brennan, both on 38 points but with Fergus getting the nod for that place. There was also a countback between Graham Beaumont and Sandy Chapo on 39 points, with Sandy taking third and Graham second. John Cogan, in his last game before heading off back to Ireland, took first place with a fine 42 points.

There were three ‘2’s, coming from Ralph Kaeding, Graham Beaumont and the lovely Miss Sasicha.
