We had a change of venue from Bangpra as we felt the course still needed some improvement before going back on the schedule.  A good turnout of 12 players made their way to the alternate course where a difference in the asking green fee from the quoted green fee held us up for a bit but this was soon sorted out by Neil and the management, and we proceeded to tee off on a well presented course with slightly slow greens.

A good day out was enjoyed by all with Steve Durey proving to be the man of the day with a first place finish and claiming two near pins; all this without playing to his handicap.  Mr.” hit the driver for the short holes”, Peter Allen, managing to claim the other near pin.

Wednesday, July 6, Burapha A & B (blue tees) – Stableford

1st Steve Durey (20) 35pts

2nd Jimmy Carr (15) 35pts

3rd Tony Robbins (15) 34pts

Near Pins: Neil Carter, Steve Durey.

Only six made it to Burapha ( a number of our guys had gone on a golf trip to Soi Dao).  It was too bad for them as the A and B courses were in terrific shape as they were prepared for the big Singha Pattaya Open next week.  It was a great experience to play on professional speed greens with tiger rough for those who strayed off the fairways.  It really shows how well the local courses can be presented, when the effort is given.  Sad to say the grandstands were empty as the Bunker Boys marched up the 18th.

There was spirited competition with Tony Robbins setting the pace with 18 on the front but bunker trouble on the 12th hurt.  Jimmy Carr and Steve Durey fought it out to the finish, both with 35 points, with Steve taking it on count back for back to back wins and Tony a shot behind in third.  The second place finish vaulted Jimmy Carr into an early lead in the July Golfer of the Month competition.

Friday, July 8, Pleasant Valley (blue tees) – Stableford

1st Jimmy Carr (15) 39pts

2nd Neil Carter (14) 35pts

Near Pins: Geoff Parker (2), Tony Robbins, Jimmy Carr.

Only seven players made the trip to a course we have not played in quite a while and found it to be in excellent shape, if a little wet after recent rains.  A few of the holes that had longish carries over water or environmentally protected areas did not prove to be that difficult and the general consensus was that we should not wait too long before coming back.

Jimmy Carr, one of our long hitters, had no problem taming the course with a score of three better than his handicap and of course adding to his tally for golfer of the month.  Neil Carter struggled to keep up with Jimmy but still posted a respectable 35 points.

The course is exceptionally well bunkered with many strategic placements and a few golfers were heard to complain that they had gone in all the bunkers but that this had not affected their enjoyment of the game.

Note: The Bunker Boys play out of The M Club located 100 meters up Soi 14 off of 3rd Road and no prior booking is required.  New players can merely turn up by 9.30 A.M. on any Monday, Wednesday or Friday and enjoy a game with us.  We arrange transport which departs at 10 A.M. for a booked tee time at 11 A.M.
