The field today was unfortunately riddled with cancelations so we set out with a dozen players.  Those who attended were filled with some optimistic enthusiasm in taking on the great Mountain Shadow course.

The weather played no negative part in the proceedings, if anything it made for a pleasant day.  We played from the white tees and scores were not too bad, with the one outstanding score being that of the day’s winner, Keith Buchanan, with a very tidy 39 points.  A further 4 behind was the second placed finisher Alex Field.

Despite the overnight and continuing wet weather a dozen golfers showed up to take on North and West nines at the Navy course.

With the weather forecast to clear, we teed off slightly earlier than our booking time, under cloudy skies and cool conditions which continued throughout the day.

There was hardly any carry on the fairways so we elected to use the social players yellow tees, which proved appropriate as only a few players beat their handicap.  Considering recent rains the course was in good nick with the greens running true.

The shorter play coupled with the physically induced relaxing state that Steve Younger found himself in, produced a fantastic round of golf and one of his “best scores in Thailand”, he was later heard to remark.  With 44 points off his 14 handicap he blitzed the field and won the day easily.

Alex Field (18) and Stu Rifkin (14), both playing in the group with today’s winner, tried in vain to capture the mystique that had a hold of Steve and accordingly partook in many of the very affordable chilled Leo beers available at all drink stops, however they could only manage a creditable 37 points apiece.  This was enough for Alex to take out second spot on the day and Stuart coming in third using the count back method.  Fourth position was filled by Takeshi Hakozaki who played to his handicap of 11.
