PSC Golf from The Growling Swan

Monday, May 9, Greenwood – Stableford

We had 14 golfers eagerly awaiting the trip up The 331 to the popular and ever so cheap Greenwood Country Club.  Green fee cart and caddie all for Bt. 1,050, not bad!

The condition of the course was spot on again – the fairways had grass and the greens, although hard, did play true.  We played A & B nines off the white tees and at over 6,200 yards the tricky par 5’s sorted many out, as well as the long par 3’s (for some).  The weather was quite warm with little or no breeze to report.

Terry Steilow (left) with Sal Brizzy & Rudy Reganes.

It was quite obvious early on that his holiday in Aussie had recharged the batteries as Sal Brizzi finished on top with 40 points and took his second win in a row.  Coming in second was Terry Steilow while our resident scorer John Anderson took third place on the podium.

1st Sal Brizzy (6) 40pts

2nd Terry Steilow (17) 39pts

3rd John Anderson (28) 34pts

Near Pins: A2 Bill Steinmann, A6 Sal Brizzy, B5 Terry Steilow

Long Putts: A9 Bernie McCart, B9 Ebrahim

Thursday, May 12, Crystal Bay – Stableford

It was a smallish but talented field of 15 golfers that travelled to a very dry Crystal Bay Golf Course, on a very hot morning.  Playing off the front tees it was obvious that you would need to get to 40 or close to it to obtain a podium finish.

Shane Young (left) with Alisha Slender (daughter of Lindsay Slender).

We played C and B nines in that order, with grainy greens on C opposed to fast greens on B.  The hot conditions were hard to cope with and just after half way a much welcomed shower cooled things down for a while, but when the clouds passed and the sun came back it didn’t take long to make playing conditions uncomfortably hot.

Jockey (Shane Young) was the star of the day with a sensational front nine of 27 points (40 off the stick) with a string of one-putts.  That is a great effort for a 27 handicapper.  He slowed down a wee bit on the second nine but still carded an impressive 41 points (possibly easing down on the line under a tight rein: stewards’ inquiry anyone?)

The minor podium places were filled by Ebrahim, Steve Younger & Andrew Allen in that order, all shooting an excellent score of 39 and having to be separated by a count back.

1st Shane Young (27) 41pts

2nd Ebrahim (17) 39pts

3rd Steve Younger (13) 39pts

4th Andrew Allen (31) 39pts

Near Pins: C4 Graham Rice, C7 Lindsay Slender, B3 Jayson Schembri, B6 Alex Field

Long Putts: C9 Jayson Schembri, A9 Ebrahim
