Jomtien Golf with the IPGC

Monday, June 13, Plutaluang – Stableford

Our second visit here this month since our washout the previous Monday and there were two divisions out today.

We were allocated the East and South courses and as we teed off the clouds thickened in the background and it became very gloomy on the first two holes.  The rain started to come down from the third hole onward and when we reached the ninth green we decided to call the competition off.

One group continued for 18 holes in the rain and the others came in after nine so there were no scores submitted today.

Wednesday, June 15, Rayong Country Club – Stableford

A totally deserted course as we arrived with nobody on the first tee for at least 15 minutes until we were all assembled there.  It was an almost perfect day with a cloud covering and a gentle breeze.

No ladies today so there were two divisions for the men and playing his first game with us off a 10 handicap Bill Bertram won division 1 with 39 points, with Neville Scurrell second on 34.

Bryan Rought took the second division win with 35 points with ‘count-back’ Burnie second 4 points behind.

There were rollovers in the ‘2’s from Bangpakong and Phoenix but there were no winners in either division again, so all to play for at Pattaya Country Club on Monday.

Friday, June 17, Eastern Star – Stableford

There are still many people away and there were only 16 out today in a two divisional competition; the cut was 6-17 in division 1 and 18 plus in division 2.

The rain started as we arrived on the first tee and lasted for five holes.  There was light drizzle for the next three before it cleared up and the rest of the round was played in comfortable conditions.  The greens are still improving here with the amount of rain they have had here over the past week.

Playing off 10, Mikael Andersson won division 1 with 36 points, Bryan Rought was second two points behind and in third place with 31 was Tony Thorne.

Thirty-four points won division 2 for Jim Lane with Glyn Evans second on 30, and in his last game with before his departure back to the UK, Lee Casey took third with 29.

Two rollovers in division 1 and three in division 2 ensue to next Friday in the ‘2’s comp.

All of our thoughts here at Jomtien Golf go out to Kari Aarnio who is back in Finland.
