Well this turned out to be a week to remember for Mr Phil Battah, not only did he take the runners-up spot at Pattana on Monday, and again at Phoenix on Thursday, but he also shot a hole in one at Green Valley on Tuesday.   He told me it was his fifth ace in his golf career but this one got him really excited as it landed just past the pin and the backspin took it back into the hole.  Well played Phil and thanks for the beer.

Monday, March 25, Pattana C & A – Stableford

Pattana C and A must have been playing difficult on Monday as none of the field came close to playing to their handicap.

Tony Gliddon (11) tried the hardest and finished in first place with 34 points, followed in by two players on 33.  As stated, Phil Battah (11) took second place on count back from John Goudge (6) who had to settle for third.

Tuesday, March 26, Green Valley – Stableford

Green Valley on Tuesday was my first outing since returning from England and it was a pleasure to be on the golf course after a two month lay-off.  It was also a pleasure to play with the eventual winner on the day.  The ‘Big Man’ from the Emerald Isle, Seamus Farrell (H/cap 30), now well into his seventies, showed all the youngsters in the field the way home by returning with 39pts.  I can vouch for the fact that this was no fluke and some of the shots he played would not have looked out of place from a single figure handicapper.

Mod Chaviraksa (12) took second place on count back from John Goudge (6) on 35 pts.  John obviously seems to like coming in third as it is the fourth time in a fortnight.

Thursday, March 28,Phoenix – Stableford

On Thursday it was off on our weekly trip to Phoenix (Mountain and Lakes) and another septuagenarian decided to turn back the clock and snatch first place.  Alan Evans (H/cap 25), recently relieved of his journalistic duties with the TRGG, beat the ‘Ace-man’ Phill Battah (11) into second place on count back, both returning 38pts.  Young whippersnapper Jim Cleaver (13) took third place on 37pts.

Friday, March 29, The Emerald – Stableford

Friday saw the largest TRGG field of the week headed off to play Emerald.  So many turned up it required two divisions.

Div. 1 (up to 12 handicap) was headed by our top performing lady Mod Chaviraksa (12) who won on count back from our serial shanker Fergus Brennan (12), both finishing with 39pts.  Obviously Fergus managed to have a day off from his shanking nightmare.  Dave Palmer (4) took third place with 37pts.

Div. 2 (13 handicap and above) saw the overall winner of the day Jim McNeill (17) take top spot with 40pts, followed home by Gary Minchin (13) on 39 and Jim Cleaver (13) on 35.

Good luck to all you golfers for the coming week!
