PSC Golf from The Outback Golf Bar

Monday, June 8, Burapha – Stableford

When we left the Outback bar it was raining but at Burapha the sun was out and we hit off in fine, hot weather, but after six holes the heavens opened and we had a twenty minute storm.  The rest of the round was played in light drizzle with a cool wind.

Our five groups were back on A and B which was in great condition, with Ivan Plunkett winning division 2 on 35 points ahead of Willy Van Heetwelde and Jimmy Little.

Tuesday, June 9, Laem Chabang – Stableford

It was a pleasure to watch my three talented partners scoring great from the blue tees at Laem Chabang’s A and B courses, and especially Mark Haffenden, who was 3 under gross with 4 holes to go.  Of course his mate, Simon Spaulding, had to mention on the15th green that it didn’t look like Mark had a bogey in him – so he promptly missed a short putt and then dropped another shot on both of the last two holes.  That’s what you call a golfer’s curse, but no harm done as Simon did make it up with buying him a beer or two!

Despite his dropped shots, Mark managed to finish level gross par and 36 points off his scratch handicap to take second place behind Mike Omiya’s 37 points.  Mike played very steady golf off his 8 handicap, hardly missing a fairway all day and if it wasn’t for a few errant short putts his score would have been even better.  Well done to Mike from the difficult blue tees.

Coming in third place today with a very respectable 35 points off a 4 handicap was Chris Kerr.

With all the golfers electing to play blue tees, surprisingly, there were no ‘2’s recorded on the day as most of the tees off blue were 180 yards or more.

1st Mike Omiya (8) 37pts

2nd Mark Haffenden (0) 36pts

3rd Chris Kerr (4) 35pts

Wednesday, June 10, Bangpra – Stableford

Four groups played Bangpra on a fine hot day; the course was in great condition and the greens back to their best after recent coring.

There was a three-way count back to find the winner with Steve Mann heading Mike Missler and Jorn Finnerup after they all had 35 points.  Sugar Ray Handford next up the podium steps on 33.

There were no ‘2’s.

1st Stephen Mann (12) 35pts

2nd Mike Missler (08) 35pts

3rd Jorn Finnerup (24) 35pts

4th Sugar Ray Handford (20) 33pts

Friday, June 12, Green Valley – Stableford

Some excellent scores from some of the 23 players at Green Valley today, the best being the 40 points attained by JP Maffray.  Freddy Starbeck featured once again to occupy the second place in Div A just one point back, with Andre Coetzee, who elected to play from the blue tees, taking third with a fine 38.

In Div B, Tim Knight proved he could do it if he tried, scoring 38 points to grab the top spot on count back from Bob Lindborg.  The previous week’s medal winner, Aidan Murray, performed well again off a handicap of 19 to record 36 points and take third place.

There were three ‘2’s from Andre Coetzee (12th), and Rob Barnes & Freddy Starbeck (16th).
