Monday, Jan 18, Green Valley (white tees) – Stableford

1st Andy Makara (23) 37pts

T2nd Alan Rothwell (6) 35pts

T2nd Mark Wood (9) 35pts

T4th Peter LeNoury (13) 34pts

T4th Kevin Hamilton (15) 34pts

T4th Alfie Butler (18) 34pts

It’s a busy time these days out here at Green Valley.  We are in the thick of high season now and as usual, the annual migration of vast hordes of Korean golfers has begun.  Can you blame them?  We take for granted that we live in a golfer’s paradise and sometimes have to share our treasure with the visitors.

Peter Thomas.

Many of the caddies here are now on a rotation and getting in 2 rounds a day, so that is good news for them.  Let’s make hay while the sun shines!  The course was actually in great condition considering how much play Green Valley is getting these days.

It was a crowded leaderboard today and a fairly close comp.  Our darksider buddy Andy Makara was the best of the bunch, shooting a 37 out here and that gave him an easy win by two strokes over second place.

Wednesday 20th – Pattavia Century – Stableford – White Tees

1st Peter Thomas (17) 43pts

2nd Brian Carr (27) 38pts

3rd Darren Johnson (12) 37pts

4th Kenny Aihara (6) 36pts

It was a 5 hour round, we had 2 rain delays, the 331 was a mess and it took us 90 minutes to get back but do you know what?  It was a fantastic day out!  This little gem is quickly becoming everyone’s favourite golf course these days.  The layout is superb and the condition of the course was excellent.  The light rain also slowed those deadly greens down enough to allow us to make a few putts, as evidenced by these high scores.  When you can play a course of this quality for just 1,350 with a shared buggy, it has to be the best deal in town.

We had a great comp with some great scoring, and Kenny Aihara got things rolling by turning in a 36 on the card.  Darren did one better with his 37, but Brian Carr must have had a bit of a disappointment.  You would think a 38 out here would be enough for the win, but it was not to be.  Peter Thomas had “one of those days” and blew away the field by 5 strokes.  Peter also bagged an ‘ace’ on the 7th, and a good one at 174 yards as scoped by Capt. Phil… just for the record.

Mr. Thomas graciously rang the bell on our return to TGC to the cheers of all that were a part of his fantastic day of golf.  Thank you Peter, and well done mate!

Friday, Jan 22, Parichat Links (white tees) – Stableford

1st Kenny Aihara (6) 35pts

2nd Alfie Butler (18) 34pts

T3rd Blake Hanna (13) 29pts

T3rd Dean Polvi (22) 29pts

Time for another round at the controversial Parichat Links.  This booking always gets a lot of chatter back at TGC as not everyone falls in love with this place the first time round.  Opinion is divided whether some of the holes are fair at all, as long carries with no real bailout areas obviously need to be re-designed.  Another complaint that I hear about Parichat is that very few of the caddies speak any English.  This also needs to be addressed, so I hope they are reading this.

A view from the clubhouse at Pattavia looking down on the 18th green.

Twenty-nine points were all that were needed for a podium placing today, and Blake Hanna tied with Dean Polvi to do just that to share third.  The eternally youthful Alfie Butler swung his way to second place and a 34 on the scorecard, a very tidy round indeed.

How could a week of golf go by without Kenny Aihara winning something?  Just in the nick of time, and playing off a huge 6 handicap, was Kenny and his 35 points to take top spot on the podium… once again!  Nice shooting Kenny, a win on this course is well deserved.
