Monday, April 25, Green Valley (white tees) – Stableford

1st Rusty Barfield (5) 39pts

2nd Alan Rothwell  (7) 35pts

3rd Brian Carr (27) 34pts

It was a week of records, a week of firsts and a week of great play from one of our regulars.

The name is Rusty, but he certainly was not on this day.  Mr. Barfield’s 39 points was enough to stave off the incessant pressure from Alan Rothwell, who turned in his last card before heading off to his summer retreat in Florida.

Kenny Aihara – 5 time monthly medal winner.

There was a tremendous round of applause as Capt. Phil announced the departure of Alan, all in good fun (I think).  Alan won the Man of the Mountain for our Khao Yai trip and has been a consistent winner here over the last 5 months.  Now the other guys are getting their chance!

Brian Carr also turned in a solid 34 points for the last spot on the podium.

Tuesday, April 26, Phoenix (white tees) – Stableford

1st Rusty Barfield (5) 41pts

2nd Aki Yamomoto (20) 37pts

3rd Darren Stanton (16) 36pts

The Mountain and Lakes courses were the assignment today and Phoenix was looking in great shape.  5 groups joined us today to take advantage of the special Sports Day offer of free golf carts, so at 1,300 baht all in it must be one of the best deals in Pattaya.  The new Lakes layout has been fairly warmly received except for that par 5, 4th hole that courts controversy.

This was a big day for Darren Stanton, as the 16 handicapper finally dropped in his first eagle!  This was achieved on the Lakes 3rd and we will of course never hear the end of it.

Kenny Aihara has been nursing a bad back, but his fellow countryman Aki was feeling just fine as Yamomoto-san took sole second with a 37-point card.  That eagle carried a bonus as Darren managed to finish with 36 for third spot.

The big story thusfar is another victory for Rusty Barfield as the American carded a tremendous 41 points, not easy for a 5-handicapper!  Nice shootin’ Rustbucket!

Thursday, April 28, Greenwood (white tees) – Monthly Medal

1st Kenny Aihara (6) net 67

T2nd Peter Thomas (17) net 73

T2nd Steve Ellison (20) net 73

I mentioned earlier that it was a week of records, and this one will stand for many years to come.  Today was our Monthly Medal, obviously a tournament that takes a great deal of consistency to win.  Kenny Aihara had already collected 4 of these honours over the last few years, quite a feat in itself.

Kenny claimed his 5-star Antigua winners’ jersey today with an unprecedented 5th victory here at Greenwood and he did it in style with a blistering net 67 to blow away the field!  This win is all the more impressive when you know that Kenny has been battling a bad back lately, so great job Ken, hope you work that out soon.

Way behind Kenny were Peter Thomas and strangely enough, myself.  Peter and I were bemused to find a mere 73 would get us anywhere.  You just never know!

Condition of the course was agreed to be excellent.  No dry fairways here, but the greens were just a bit on the slow side.
