A windy day at Emerald

PSC golf from Tropical Bert’s

Tuesday, Jan. 22, The Emerald – Stableford

The lists seem to be filling up in January this year, and so we had a full house on this morning.  Emerald is usually a Friday course, but we then have the extra traffic problems so being really smart we decided to play here on Tuesday and go to Royal Lakeside on the Friday.  Something seems a bit strange!

So off we went and soon arrived at the Emerald.  Booking in is quick and they have the advantage here, for an anti social golfer, of having a cart for one at 400 baht.  That’ll do me.  So down to the start and as it happened we got off on time.

With the heavy wind the course proved quite difficult.  I must admit to not being the best of wind players, so a really good front nine got blown away on the back nine.  Still, a couple of the golfers playing with me were producing good results.

The course itself is playing quite well; the fairways are a bit hard but overall it is quite playable.

Round over it was into the showers, which are rather small but with good showers.  Outside is the restaurant, the only open air one around, and the food is good and cheap.

Back at Bert’s it was soon time for the results.  In the A Flight, 0-18, the winner was Richard Kubicki with 35 points ahead of a count back on 32 points that saw Brian Parish in second and John Binns in third.

In the B Flight, the winner was Jack Robertson with 34 points ahead of a count back on 32 points that saw Barry Elphick in second and Daryl Evans in third, with Pekka and John Marrit just losing out.

Friday, Jan. 25, Royal Lakeside – Stableford

Well it is a long way, and now the decision to play on a Friday struck home, not before we left but as soon as we started back and realised it was a busy traffic night.

The drive up there was a doddle, as was the book-in which was pretty quick, and then onto the course.  The day was fine and so was the golf course.  Since it was given the upgrade this place is now even better and is a pleasure to play.  It is in many respects a much tougher test of golf, but the back nine in particular has been changed.  The fairways are well trimmed and the greens are quick but true.  I suppose if it was not so far away we would play it more often.

Round over it was back into the fine changing rooms, a shower and into the restaurant.  Then off we went on the way back.  As said it was a busy drive back but I suppose any other night would have been much the same.

Back at Bert’s it was soon time for the results.  In the A Flight, 0-17, the winner was Ted Morris with 37 points on count back over Bob Watson in second.  In third was Mark West with 34 points on count back over Max Scott in fourth.

In the B Flight the winner was John Davis with 38 points ahead of a three-way count back on 37 points that saw Mark O’Callaghan in second, Paul Alford in third and Daryl Evans in fourth.
