White tees

1st Mick Beresford (20) 39pts

2nd John Emmerson (12) 39pts

3rd Peter Hynard (12) 36pts

4th Dave Mather (8) 35pts

First order of the day is to send our best regards and deep appreciation to Her Majesty for 60 years on the throne!  What a glorious spectacle we followed on the BBC as London and the nation so proudly celebrated.

It was a weekend of celebrations here also at TGC as we cheered on Thongchai and Tiger to their fantastic victories at the Wales Open and The Memorial respectively.  What a great weekend!

Sonny Goldsbury and Kalani Makaneole.Sonny Goldsbury and Kalani Makaneole.

Some familiar names yet again on the leaderboard, so I guess it is true that the more you play the better you get.  Micky B had a good week last week here (win!) and so the luck continues on with his win here today.  John Emmerson was once again the bridesmaid and lost on count back with a 39 as well.  The cigars will be lit anyway, don’t you worry.

Our golf manager today, Peter Hynard, shot his handicap for third to top fellow Englishman Dave Mather on 35, who is scrambling to get in as many rounds as he can before returning to Blighty.

Wednesday 30th – Crystal Bay – Monthly Medal, White tees.

1st Sonny Goldsbury (8) net 67

2nd Kalani Makaneole (8) net 68

3rd Kris Kritsanajootra (12) net 68

End of the month, so another Monthly Medal to contest here at The Golf Club.  The coveted shirt was once again up for grabs and this time out we had a newbie join the club of elite golfers who can wear the gold starred jersey.

Diego Wells and Phil Smedley.Diego Wells and Phil Smedley.

Sonny Goldsbury was having a good round and playing well, in spite of his double bogey start.  He did not let that faze him and just carried on through the round playing as best he could.  At the end of it all, he stood high (not easy for Sonny!) with the lowest score of the day.  Back at the club, the traditional Hakka was in order and after much coaxing, Sonny finally performed it for us.

This should be a lesson to us all.  How many times have we had a lousy start and we let it do our heads in and give up too early on the game?  Sonny’s mental toughness is applauded, and the New Zealander takes top prize on the day.

Kalani just beat out Kris K for second as Kris left the course to get straight to the airport for his return to Singapore.  A dedicated golfer if there ever was one!  Great job to all of you guys, and thanks for joining us for the event.

Friday, June 1, Royal Lakeside(White tees) – Stableford

1st Phil Smedley (12) 33pts

2nd Vic Hester (13) 33pts

3rd Diego Wells (10) 28pts

As predicted here a couple of weeks back, Phil Smedley finally came good and beat the rest at Royal Lakeside to jump to the top of the podium.  Phil shot a very respectable 33 Stableford points on this tricky course he had only played once before.  There were rumours that a skins game was also taking place, so that was also a major distraction.  Well played to Phil and watch out for this guy in the coming weeks!

Oilman Vic Hester lost on count back to Phil while today’s Golf Manager Diego Wells took third.  Don’t forget to join Diego every Saturday at 2:00 at the Asia par 3 on Prathumnak Hill.
