Phoenix Tuesday/Friday PSC Golf Group
The previous Tuesday we were completely washed out, then on Friday we ended up cancelling the day due to a public holiday and the LPGA tournament at Siam Country Club. Hence there was no report for last week.
This week the sky looked a little threatening but we hoped that the normal movement of the storm clouds at Phoenix would prevail and skirt around us. Buddha or God was with us today, with thunder and lightning at a safe distance we were allowed to complete our game rain free.
Playing our end of the month stroke play competition today we welcomed a new sponsor on board from this week in the name of KPK Foods Ltd., owned by Keith Keohane to add to Trattoria Italiana, owned by Giorgio Baccioli.
Tuesday’s medal winners with the staff at The Relax Bar.
This means that on the last Tuesday of the month we can offer two great prizes for the best net scores of the day. A great big thank you to both the above, plus of course our hosts every week, The Relax Bar, who also donate weekly prizes of free drinks and A massage. With great service, sensible drink prices and a good menu this venue has now become the perfect place for our weekly presentation.
Onto the golf and we welcomed quite a few new players to our group today: Colin Graver, Gerry O’Dwyer, Damien Malloy (celebrating his 60th birthday), John Kelly and Barry Wilkinson.
However, we also said goodbye to Edi Fiedler, Gerry O’Dwyer, and Arthur (the umbrella man) Barrett, who all go back to their respective countries for what they hope will be a nice summer (these people are fools). Also farewell to Shaun Merriman who is off to more exotic places in search of wealth.
Our overall winner today with a luscious round of golf was David Lusha, romping home with a fine net 68 to claim the first prize plus the KPK Foods voucher. In second place in ‘A’ flight was Edi Fiedler who also broke handicap to record a net 71 and take the Trattoria Italiana voucher. In third place in was Shaun Merriman with a net 77 (nuff said).
‘B’ flight winner with a net 72 was Richard Baldwin, with Goort Gelten coming second only by count-back with the same score and our little Arthur Barrett claiming third place with a net 76.
Technical prizes of near pins went to Edi Fiedler (2), Richard Baldwin and Hugh (no surprise) Byrne.
Lucky draw recipients were Patrick (again, no surprise) Browne, Damien (birthday boy) Malloy and (bubbling) Bob Neylon.
Every Tuesday we play from the white tees and every Friday we play from the blue (back) tees, both days at approx 12.00 noon. Anyone interested in playing golf with us please call me (Mike) on 087 091 7565.
