11th Thai Polo Open finals day this weekend

The final of the 2016 BMW – B Grimm Thai Open Polo Tournament will take place this coming Saturday, January 23 at the picturesque Thai Polo & Equestrian Club in east Pattaya.

The Thai Polo Open is one of the main events on the Thai polo calendar and attracts top players from Argentina, Australia, England, Germany, Malaysia, Singapore, China and Thailand to take part, all vying for a chance to win the prestigious Princess Cup.  The tournament is also run as a charitable event to raise funds for HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirinidhorn’s Chitralada Vocational School project.

Enjoy a thrilling day at the Thai Polo Open on Saturday, Jan.23 at the Thai Polo & Equestrian Club in Pattaya.

Play got underway on January 14 with nine teams featuring local and international riders taking part in a round robin three group format.  The winners of each group and the best runner-up were due to play off in the semi finals earlier in the week.

Finals Day will be on Saturday and throngs of spectators are expected to attend, including, many VIPs, celebrities, diplomats, sports enthusiasts and businessmen.

Those attending will be able to enjoy shopping opportunities and games at sponsors’ tents set amid the palm trees, pony rides for the kids, music by the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, as well as generous supplies of wine and food at the outstanding buffet lunch.  BMW will also showcase its latest vehicles available in Thailand.

The day’s sporting activities will include a show-jumping contest, kids in fancy dress on horseback parade, the play-off to decide 3rd and 4th places and the Grand Final.

This will be followed by the presentation of the Princess Cup and other prizes, a relaxing cocktail party and fireworks display.

Visitors are welcome to attend.  There is no entry fee, although guests are asked to donate 1,000 baht for charity, which also entitles them to enjoy the sumptuous buffet lunch.  The festivities on Saturday begin at 12 noon with the first polo match at 3.15 p.m.  The dress code is smart/casual.  For directions to the venue go to website: www.thai-polo-club.com.
