PATTAYA – The Willpower Institute Branch 57 launched its schedule of meditation courses from Pattaya’s Willpower Institute.

Diana Group Managing Director Sopin Thappajug said Aug. 28 that the courses, using the teachings of Willpower founder Phra Acharn Luang Por Wiriyang Sirintharo, are for those interested in improving their lives. The global Willpower Institute network opened a branch in Pattaya several years ago and now has 1,000 members.

English-language courses, first offered at the Diana Garden Resort in 2015, will be available again with an instructor from Canada. After completing the initial course, students can enroll in further field teachings and partake in a three-night, four-day mediation session on Doi Inthanon peak in Chiang Mai led by Luang Por Wiriyang himself.

Also offered will be meditation courses for tourists with durations of one, three or five days. The cost is 1000 baht per day. To date, a large number of visitors have enrolled in the short courses to learn and practice “samatha” meditation, sometimes translated as “tranquility” meditation. By becoming focused and deeply concentrating, the student learns to stop the incessant chattering of the “monkey mind” and can attain levels of deep contemplation, resulting in a peaceful, still mind.

Though designed by a Buddhist monk, the Willpower Institute meditation course is non-denominational. It’s open to students looking for certification, as well as those interested in the practice for personal growth.

With the cooperation of the Corrections Department, Phra Acharn Luang Por Wiriyang Sirintharo has also made meditation courses available to inmates of prisons all over Thailand and to cadets of the national defense institutions.

The regular Thai or English course runs six months with sessions held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sunday. There is no cost for this long-term course and graduates receive a certificate of achievement.
