About 30 hospital and Pattaya Public Health Department staffers and PMMV volunteers, led by Dr. Boonchai Wongthaiwan, head of the dentistry department at Banglamung Hospital, examined the students Nov. 18, providing checkups, cleaning and tooth extraction for 120 students.

Students at the Redemptorist Vocational School for Persons with Disabilities were given dental checkups and dental work by Banglamung Hospital volunteers and the Princess Mother’s Medical Volunteers.

The Princess Mother’s Medical Volunteers was set up in honor of “the mother of dentistry in Thailand”. She founded the volunteer group to provide free services for people in remote areas and the less fortunate.

Moreover, the event received good cooperation from organizations and people in both government and the private sector.

Boonchai said children often have a lot of tartar buildup, cavities and gum disease.

The services provided were teeth cleaning, tooth pulling, and instruction on proper dental care. The mobile service unit has visited communities, villages and schools in the east and been successful.
