Pattaya may be famous for its high-energy attractions, but Naklua’s Lan Po Public Park is a popular choice for Thais looking for a calmer, more relaxing weekend.

A dry July 3 gave people a chance to take their families to the park Sunday evening to enjoy fresh seafood, shrimp, crab and fish, all sold for reasonable prices. Steaming and grill services were provided at 30 baht per kilogram.

People sat and ate on mats around Lan Po while kids frolicked in the playground.

Pakamad Buaphan, a seafood vendor, said Saturdays and Sundays generate twice the income of other days. She sells ocean and freshwater shrimp at 250-300 baht per kilogram, crab at 300-400 baht per kilo, mussels at 60 baht, and sea bass at 180 baht.

Thanapat Meechonsom, a tourist from Bangkok, said he likes to come with his family and get fresh seafood and have it cooked at the park.

Seafood is fresh and less expensive than in the capital, he said, and the sitting in the park is nicer than on a sandy beach.

The park is shady and suitable for children to run and play in. Parking is convenient and mats are only 20 baht.
