Gov. Pakarathorn Thienchai chaired the Dec. 6 meeting at Chonburi City Hall for the Jan. 14 day of events.

Activities will begin at city hall at 8 a.m. with exhibitions of student projects and art, plus games and reading activities.

Parents are encouraged to bring their children to help them learn and be better prepared for life, the governor said.

The first Children’s Day was held on the first Monday of October 1955 at the request of V.M. Kulkanee, a representative from the Federal Agency for Child Welfare, who intended to publicize the importance of children and their rights.

The government then appointed a working committee to prioritize Children’s Day and coordinate with both the government and private sectors to promote and celebrate Children’s Day throughout schools, foundations, orphanages and others.
