A wrong-way driver was critically injured when he collided with motorcycle taxi carrying a tourist and a Thai woman.

Eaksuwat Chaisomboon, 31, was unconscious when paramedics arrived at the Central Road – Second Road intersection around 3 a.m. Jan. 27. He was transported to a local hospital and was reported to be in a coma.

Motorcycle taxi driver Manot Duangta, 41, his foreign male passenger and a Thai woman riding pillion sustained minor injuries.

Manot said he was driving the couple back from Beach Road when the driver of the Bangkok-registered Yamaha Aerox, traveling at high speed against traffic, slammed into his Honda Dream Super Cup. The Aerox careened into a utility pole, critically injuring the wrong-way driver.

    A couple of years ago didn’t they pass a law about driving the wrong way and banning it but people are still doing it to save a thimble full of fuel and because they can’t be bothered to drive on the right side of the road
