BANGKOK, 9 May 2012  - In today’s Royal Ploughing Ceremony, court astrologers have predicted that there will be an average water supply this year. The forecast is based on the two royal oxen in the ceremony eating grass out of the seven food offerings. The choice of grass is also interpreted as that rice yields, fruits and staple foods will be in abundance.

As for the choice of cloth chosen by Phraya Raek Na or the Lord of the Ploughing Ceremony, he picked the longest piece out of the three on offer, giving a forecast that the water supply this year will be little. Rice farming in low-lying areas will be productive while that in higher terrain will be partially damaged.

As the Day of the Royal Ploughing Ceremony has been earmarked as the National Farmers Day, 37 outstanding farmers for 2012 from various parts of the country were also granted an audience with HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn to receive their respective awards at the end of the Royal Ploughing Ceremony.
