An unknown number of concealed attackers ambushed them from the roadside.

Supat Inthanok and Ronnachit Praiduang were each shot in the head in the provincial seat while they were riding a motorcycle to the Weruwan temple. They later died from these severe wounds.
The police collected spent bullet casings from an M-16 assault rifle and a 9 mm pistol at the scene as evidence.
The gunmen also took two AK-47 assault rifles of the two defence volunteers before fleeing. Tripod spikes were strewn on a road to prevent officials from pursuing them.
