Transport Minister inspects damages from Chiang Rai quake

TAK, 7 May 2014 – The transport minister has gone down to Tak Province to inspect the damages resulting from the Chiang Rai earthquake that struck on the evening of May 5th.

Transport Minister Chatchart Suthipan traveled by bus to the Mae Sot District, Tak Province, to attend a meeting with related agencies. The meeting would focus on solving accident-related problems at the Tak-Mae Sot route (Highway No. 105), which had been affected from the quake.

Mr. Chartchart said he has dispatched a few officials to quickly repair Highway No. 188 connecting Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai provinces together. The minister has ordered to expand a few lanes on the highway so that commuters can travel easily. He has also instructed to demolish road areas that have been affected by the quake and restore it back to normal.

So far, the Transport Ministry estimates that the damages resulting from the earthquake would amount up to around 50 to 100 million baht. Nonetheless, many important structures such as bridges and domestic airports still remain intact.
