A Pattaya traffic cop is being hailed as a hero for saving a Russian tourist who nearly drowned.

Pol. Lt. Worapan Kaewmorakot rushed to Pattaya Beach at Soi 13/1 after hearing a report on his radio that a Russian swimmer had been dragged out of the water. He arrived at the beach to find Dmitri Rybin, 50, unconscious.

Applying rescue breaths and CPR, Worapon revived the swimmer, who was first spotted by a speedboat driver following a cry for help. Rybin’s Russian partner tried to help, but did not have life-saving skills.

The Russian was transported to Pattaya Memorial Hospital where he was recovering.

This was not the officer’s first live-saving situation. He said he gave first aid to a motorcyclist who suffered a severe accident. Worapon kept him alive until paramedics arrived, but the victim later died in the hospital.

He said he believes if you are able to do something good for somebody, you must do it now and don’t regret it later.
