Deputy National Police Commissioner Pol Gen Somyot Poompanmoung, and acting Metropolitan Police Commissioner Pol Lt Genakthip Chaichinda along with senior military officers met to discuss the situation and measures to deal with the anti-coup protester rally at the Victory Monument.
“Law enforcement officers will apply more strict measures,” said Gen Somyot, noting that it was reported that some protesters were hired to join the rally, and that they did not genuinely want to protest against the coup.
The protest has caused damage, and that police were injured in the encounter with protesters. Protesters involved in the skirmish would be prosecuted, he added.
The senior police officers have called on the public not to join or observe in the protest, urging people to avoid risky situations for their own safety.
Four companies of military personnel and four companies of police have been deployed at the Victory Monument to maintain public order.
