Iraqi ambassador to Thailand Dr Amal Mussa Hussain Ali Al-Rubaye, based in Kuala Lumpur, has affirmed the strong bilateral ties when she paid a courtesy call on Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra at Government House.
The ambassador, on an introductory visit after taking up his post in Malaysia, requested support from Thailand to speed up resumption of bilateral relations as the situation on Iraq has returned to normal.
Ms Yingluck told the ambassador that the Thai government was ready to support the exchange and foster bilateral cooperation between Thailand and Iraq particularly on trade and investment.
The Thai premier has asked for opportunity to export more Thai products to Iraq such as rice and automobile spare parts.
The ambassador said her government planned the mutual reopening of embassies in Bangkok and Baghdad.
Ms Yingluck emphasised that Thailand was pleased to extend cooperation in reopening the embassies.
