Thailand aims for at least 3 golds at 10th ASEAN Skills Competition

BANGKOK, 19 October 2014  M.L. Puntrick Smiti, Director-General of the Department of Skill Development said that Thailand has sent youth representatives to participate in the 10th ASEAN Skills Competition in Hanoi, Vietnam, during 19 – 29 October this year.

She explained that the biennial competition is held to demonstrate commitments of ASEAN to develop qualified human resources to match world standard and offer an opportunity for members to show off their vocational skills.

Thai representatives will compete in 21 categories such as Welding Technology, Tile Installation, Wood Joint, Brick Installation, Web Design, Automobile Technology, and Food and Beverage Services. They are expected to win at least three gold medals from welding, food and beverage services and tile installation. According to the director-general, Thailand is quite confident in winning the top prize from welding as Thai competitors used to be the champions in previous competitions, both at ASEAN and world levels.
